A word to the wise: this Kindle edition of the Iliad and Odyssey does *not* have a cover, table of contents or an index.

This means that for reference purposes it's near enough useless: clicking through 400-odd pages on a Kindle with each page updating is far from practical, and the search function does not discriminate between chapter titles or text.

OK, at 77p purchasing this book wasn't the most terrible mistake I've ever made purchase-wise, but it was really annoying nonetheless, and was 77p I could have spent on chocolate.

Clicked on "Kindle Edition" from a page advertising Chapman's translation. Now i notice that the Kindle page describes it as Pope's translation. The text is neither but some random modern translation.

On this page there is also advertised an ebook with a cover that proclaims "Chapman's Homer" but which according to the blurb is another modern translation by Griffiths.

Does Amazon really not grasp the idea that the same book can exist in different translations? And that it might be important to let the reader know which one they are actually selling?

The Odyssey is a truly inspirational story about never giving up. A father leaves his young family to fight for his country. He is snared by the gods when his fellow seamen fail a test of wills, and is forced to remain on an island with a stunning, eternally youthful and voluptuous goddess. In the decades he is gone, fighting in Troy, and anything else that happened across their ships path, the young men of his home town Congregate ceaselessly around his lonely wife, vying pitilessly for her affections. Eating him out of house and home in the meantime. His son tires of this selfish draining of his wealth, and ventures off in search of his long lost father. At the same time, Odysseus is finally released from his bondage to this goddess, and sets off to return home to his wife (Aaah). Your imagination is the only limit with the stylish descriptives of his adventures and battles. And of course, there's a happy ending. A worthy read and a perfect introduction to classic writing if reading the T E Lawrence translation.

This is a stunning edition of a great story. The notes seem rather tortuous for a paperback edition, but then the text is so clear that not much added information is.needed.
