Apparently an album from top Swedish DJ Adam Beyer. I didn't have a CLUE who or what he was before listening to this, but it appears that he has a decent loyal fanbase that rave about his DJing talents ... plus after searching through past Fabric flyers I find that he's DJed there too. So think of that as a stamp of quality.
The thing that got me hooked into this is the absolutely STONKING title track Ignition Key. One of the BEST tracks I've heard full stop, I think of it as Plaid meets epic tech-house-breaks! The lovely orchestral synth structures of a Plaid track but with the grit and urgency of top flying tech house. Brilliant! The album is worth it for this alone. Great for listening too on those grey wintery days, top for dancing to (in your own head as you sit on a bus for another dullathon at work).
Aside for that, you get some nice gritty tech house in there, for usage in a more standard DJ set, bassline hypnotic stuff ... very Tyrant. The rest of the album is made up of edgy experimental techno material and the odd ambient skit ... not firing fast hard stuff, but plenty of angular synths, odd structures and noises ... putting this album definately in the 'listening' end of the market. I certainly wouldn't be dropping any of the odder stuff!
If tech house and Plaid float your boat, give this a try you might just like. DEFINATELY check that title track whatever you do! Inspiring.

Sweeden is very popular with Techno music as it boasts some of the worlds finest Techno Dj's & Artists to enclude Jamie anderson, Henrik & of course Adam Beyer.
Mr Beyer is know worldwide toTechno & dance fans as one the main Dj's on the scene and as a top remixer too.
But then he decided to produce he own tracks and this is the end result a Techno album thats go everything from wicked synths, catchy basslines and top beats.
if you are into Techno or even if your not then this is a album which will make you smile and dance from start to finish.
Well done Adam and if you love this then try and get Timewarp vol 3 that will off his mixing skills as well

5.0 out of 5 stars adam beyer rules 23 July 2005

i was actually so offended by fiesta's review that i am posting my first ever amazon review simply to get a chance to provide a counter argument.

first, i think it might be worth listening to fiesta if you're a newbie to electronic music, or like others have said, may not pick up on subtleties. that's ok, as there are all kinds of music fans in the world, and you've got to get started somewhere! if that's who you are, you probably shouldn't get ignition key, and *definitely* not as an introduction to/first cd of adam beyer's. but to be honest, anyone who uses the term "electronic music" is not going to be someone who is REALLY into it, as what kind of blanket term is that? really passionate fans will be into techno, drum and bass, breaks, house, trance, whatever--they'll use a specific genre and not a vast term that is relatively meaningless. that reflects the knowledge of the reviewer (this isn't meant to attack fiesta; i mean it truthfully as a way to get an idea of who/what perspective a review is coming from)

second, any true technohead (and i don't mean techno as in all electronic music, i mean the sub-genre of techno specifically) knows who adam beyer is and respects him regardless of whether they like him or not. For someone SO young to have accomplished and contributed what he has already is amazing--several highly successful labels (drumcode, code red, truesoul, the new mad eye), great productions, and all while staying true to dj'ing and playing out. adam beyer is internationally recognized as one of the leaders in techno. it sounds cheesy and like a stereotypical review, but it's true. he's truly reached the point where simply attaching his name to something will win it a certain amount of merit and a certain number of sales. i'm not posting this to fight with other reviewers, i just want there at least to be some counter-information on here lest adam beyer be written off with some comment, "i don't know who he is but he sucks." obviously, i'm a huge fan, so there's a bias, but that person got to say their share, so me too :)

third, that being said, if you are still interested in adam beyer and aren't more along the lines of a veteran techno listener, my guess is you'd want something more banging. his earlier cd's (and earlier labels) tend to be more percussive and hard. there is a huge minimal trend going through europe right now, so his newer stuff, including fabric 22 (my favorite) is a lot more minimal, funky, and ... grown up, i guess. but if you want the more standard dance floor quality, i'd go with earlier cd's--the time warp cd is harder. stockholm sessions is pretty melodic, which i always think is a good way to start for people who aren't used to the raw sounds of techno. essential underground is great as well, with the first disc being really fast and slammin, and the second sounding more minimal and funky--something you wouldn't get up and dance your (...) off too (well i do, but i'm different :) but maybe more bob your head and shoulders too.

anyways, just wanted to offer some more information and pay adam beyer his due respects ;)

DO NOT LISTEN to - Fiesta Facelift - He has no clue.

This record(and much of Beyer's recent stuff) is pretty deep, and somewhat dark stuff. The production quality is excellent and the tracks are complex.

This is for true techno fans, parhaps not amatures or people who are just learning or forming an interest in techno.

Fiesta Facelift's examples of 'good' 'techno' are Fatboy Slim and Prodigy. Both are good producers, but are a little on the catchy/pop side of things. As for reviewers wanting to be 'underground', I simply argue that classical music doesn't sell huge quantities of CDz to the kids either, does that mean people like it because it's UNDERGROUND?

Fiesta, I'm not trying to attack you, but you should stick to reviews of pop music or 'college rock' or some other catchy little genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Miss Out On Great Techno! 28 Mar. 2003
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Audio CD
From the amateur explorer to the hardened vetern, "Ignition Key" is a techno album that satisfies every expectiation of a great 'dance-album'. Beyer, one of the innovators of the extremely popular sub-genre, Swedish 'Tech-House', brings his latest explosive tracks on a tightly produced, hour-long LP. Along with Cari Lekebusch and the 'God-Father' of Swedish techno, Alexi Delano, Beyer splits his time working on his main label "Drumcode' and running a record shop in Stockholm, as well as touring World-wide.
The Album's compositions will apeal to anyone who has heard Carl Craig's "Landcruising", "The Secret Tapes of Dr. Eich" by Paperclip People(Carl Craig again), JB3/Joey Beltram's "Close Grind" and anything by Joel Mull, Cari Lekebusch and Underground Resistance.

i was checking this out and felt like responding anyway ;)

i totally agree with the guy above me about newbie perceptions of edm, and how they often just dont get it. thats fine - its understandable

i can give this 4 stars without even hearing it because adam beyer is unquestionably a package deal: one of the best techno producers ,mixers and collaborators anywhere in the world today. fer sure

also, im familiar with or own at least 5 of the tracks on this mix, and they're unbelievably good.

so good the mix has to rate at least a 4 .. most likely a 5. so likely im going to buy it :)

Please, dismiss fiesta facelifts comments, what do you expect with a name like that anyway. Now let's get real,as this is for them that know(facelift you do not know by the way).Adam Beyer has been doing his thing for years and is greately respected as a dj and producer, normally his productions are on the harder more minimal side, hence this is a wonderful release as i believe his sound has reached a new level where melody and groove come to the forefront and there are some nice ambient soundtracky stuff too,so it's a varied listened with many flavas. If you like QUALITY techno/techhouse this my friend is for YOU.PROPER.
