So I was really torn on how I should rate this book. I think it was because of the ending, because there was no closure. So I sat here thinking between a three rating and a four, I talked to a friend who has the audio version and what changed my mind was when she said "hey they have book two." So because now I know that answers will be given and justice will be served that I can give this a four wineglass rating!
On to the review......Casey had something very traumatic happen to her when she was a child, it changed her whole family. She never believed what happened when she was a kid went down like that, though no one believed her. So when her friend ends up dead and she takes off it makes her look guilty. We follow how Casey seems to be one step ahead of the cops and the man who has been hired to bring her back. Though what he starts to uncover about Casey and the person she is well it doesn't seem to add up. While Casey is trying to stay under the radar she seems to find herself in the right place at the right time, because when she befriends a grandma she learns that her granddaughter is missing. Casey somehow is able to save the day but yet will she find herself caught or in another bad situation.
I really enjoyed how we got to get more information on Casey's past and how she along with her mother was handling it all. I thought that Casey's character was well developed and I loved how she didn't follow the crowd when we get to see how she acts around others. She does things for the good but not for recognition. Dylan was a good character and I liked how he was written in the sense of wanting to do something with his life but yet was still dealing with the PTSD that he suffered.
I do plan on reading book two because I need to find out if Casey will be able to clear her name with the help from Dylan. Will the justice be served that was not given so many years ago?
Casey is one helluva character.
Knowing her butt is on the line she still is selfless. Her character speaks volumes to the reader. You quickly realize you would have one the same thing in the end.
My first time reading this author and they way she pulled me into this story, I will definitely be coming back for more. This book had so many elements I enjoy. The mystery. Some hair-raising moments. I laughed out loud. I even got choked up and fought back tears. It literally had it all.
Yup, I want more.
You all would love it too, provided your into suspense books.
The action didn't let up in this exciting and enjoyable book, but at times it felt like it was aimed at teenagers, and there were a few too many spoilers.
I was disappointed with the ending as there was a major cliff hanger. It was frustrating as this was only a relatively short book anyway. When this happens I always feel like its some kind of marketing ploy to get you to buy the next book.
All in all an enjoyable story. Until the final chapter!

From the firsts few lines on page number one it had me intrigued to a depth I can't explain and I could not put it down. I had to read more....more...more. Far into the night until I finished it and my curiosity was satisfied. Well, sorta, now I am awaiting for book two, the sequel, comes out and we can continue this story. ....write sister, write.
This book is fiction but this story line is all too true in our society today. Corruption is around us everywhere and dishonesty and fraudulent conduct in high officials is the norm anymore. We live in a morally depraved world, and This book speaks volumes.
Terri Blackstock has been among one of my favorite writers for years. Her ability to catapult you into a story is unmatched. She keeps me on the edge of my emotions. And I feel the anguish, destress, despair, intrigue, love and compassion for others that our characters feel as their lives unfold in this story. What makes a good story?.....when the readers can identify with the characters or storylines. This is a GOOD BOOK!! Bravo!!
The best part is bring God into threads of this story. Where would we be in real life without him? He is not a fictional character He is alive and real and in control.
I paid full price for this book and I wanted to tell you how good it is.
That's the question posed in If I Run.
Casey can't trust the police because she suspects them in the cover-up of her father's death. To her she has no choice but to run.
Dylan can't get a PD job because his PTSD is a red flag, but his best friend is dead and the parents hire him to track down the murderer and bring her to justice.
Terri Blackstock does a wonderful job in bringing to life the anxiety of each character as one runs and the other chases. As each layer is peeled away and as the truth becomes known Casey and Dylan both face indecision.
I wished for more depth into the characters' emotional states at the beginning until I realized that they were slowly opening up. Casey is still in shock and that is made evident. Dylan is still struggling and his reserved nature is shown. The character development is slow and progressing which makes it believable.
Writing first person, present tense is difficult. Blackstock uses it well; and her style and language engaged me from the first page to the last.
There were no convenient ending or unrealistic romance (hinted that it may be later, but none at all in the first book). Each chapter and scene was realistic. Although I found two inconsistencies within the novel, the merit of If I Run outweighed those two minor weaknesses.
With such a strong story in this first novel I am ready to read the next book. Terri Blackstock set the bar high for all Christian suspense.
The author does a great job in character development and I loved the main characters. I was very dissatisfied with the end of the book. It just was sudden, and leaves the reader kind of hanging with a lot of questions.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I would encourage anyone who is on the fence about purchasing this book to wait until Book 2 comes out in 2017 and read the books back to back.
BADLY DONE ZONDERVAN! VERY BADLY DONE!
