if you haven't read the first two books of Mia's then it's a good story. being a foster carer myself for over 18 years some things ring home. the bad point is in her previous book Mia had a 3rd daughter name Isobella (hubby Martin disappointed he didn't get a son) in this book they have 3 daughters and twins Isobella and Alfie???
must be based on a true story not a true story !

Mia Marconi writes the most realistic books ! And I have been a foster carer for 20 years I,ve read other books by foster carers but find Mia tells it how it is ! It is refreshing for a carer to say how fostering affects your own families and life's rather than dramatising stories

O
I was once a foster carer myself for eleven years under fives most of the time. Reading this story although no one as difficult as Rory looking in from the outside I can now see some of the children were so badly disturbed at times although my children were very good and loved having new placements to stay I can see certain patterns that I deffinately did not. See at the time. A story about a truly amazing foster mother

Written with an honesty that made up for the fact that this need not have been a short story, I suspect there was so much more that Mia could have written and as a reader and as a parent I have to respect her reasons for not writing more but it did feel slightly rushed and too big a story to be crammed into the format of short story. However the story it's self felt like it was written with a real integrity and didn't go down the road of assuming the status of an angel because she is a foster carer. A story of human frailty and strength and weakness all in together. I found myself willing Mia to admit that Brody needed to move on so that she could put her own family back together before the damage became too big to mend.

As a Mother of four adopted children, now grown, I find the books of Miami Marconi most appealing and helpful, as well as entertaining. I find her books easy to read and her style fits with the content. I read them all. Hope she has more on the brew...

I chose the 5 star as always Mias books are so gd and once you start reading you just have to keep reading till it's finished. I read this one in an hour as just couldn't stop. A very strong person to go through this and for the upset it had caused to her family knowing of the bullying. As you say there is only so much you can do for a child that doesn't want to be helped and go back to the dysfunctional family. Only time will tell. Gd that he kept in contact with Mia

This book has an insight into Foster care and the trials that go along with looking after children in care. True to life account of both children in care and the family's that foster those children. Interesting, frank and heartbreaking. A must read

This book makes you relise your children should always be priority and to not push them away to help others you can't save everyone some times you need to let others take over and let go
