Product Description

Product Description

Icy Dock has taken another one of its tried and true products and taught it some new tricks! Introducing the MB881U3-1SA 2.5” & 3.5” SATA and IDE hard drive adapter with docking station functionality.

It features the new USB 3.0 interface for up to a 5 Gb/sec transfer rate but still backwards compatible to USB 2.0 transfer speeds. The MB881U3-1SA is perfect for any DIY user or IT Professional in need of a quality hard drive adapter. This adapter will work with both SATA drives and IDE drives and use them on a USB 3.0 interface. The 2.5" SATA/IDE drives can be powered with the USB cable alone. A power adapter is included for faster or bigger 2.5" hard drives or 3.5" hard drives. Using the USB 3.0 interface will maximize the IDE drives read/write speeds not found on other USB 2.0 products.

What benefits can be found in the Icy Dock MB881U3-1SA over other HDD adapters is that it is space saving, better heat dispassion, no messy wires all around the desk, looks nicer, and most of all USB 3.0 interface. The MB881U3-1SA will accept almost any size of 2.5" / 3.5" IDE and SATA hard drives. The on/off button makes it easy to conserve energy and extend the life of a drive The MB881U3-1SA features a detachable stand which can be removed from the adapter for better portability, with the newer smaller included power adapter, the MB881U3-1SA can be easily slid into a laptop bag. This lightweight dock can lay on any surface for hard drive stability and is small enough to grasp with just a hand. The dock and the stand are light enough to move and reposition in different areas.

This simply, yet elegant, design will definitely stand out in any room and will work on any Windows and Mac systems.

Hi,

I bought one of these reciently and have been very happy with he way it works. The build quality is pretty good (the green stand is actually a big piece of metal and not plastic as expected.)

I have a bunch of sata and IDE drives and now I can easily access what is on them. The usb3 seems to be working well with very ood transfer speeds.

The plug provided was also a uk one.

Thanks
Simon

The hard drives in my media PC are filling up so I needed to think about archiving. Optical media and flash drives don't really cut it, so it has to be hard drives. The PC has front panel USB 3 sockets, so this unit fitted the bill to make use of my larger IDE and and SATA drives to offload some stuff.

Other than the fact that it works well, there are two bonuses - the box it came in is robust enough to store it in after you've used it, but the clincher is the manner in which 3.5" SATA HDDs are mounted and supported. The HDD is offered up to the lip on the left side of the platform and then pushed home into the socket. The green metal mount then supports the right side. This is a really good bit of design!

I bought this to connect an old PATA (IDE) 3.5" drive to my current PC to attempt to retrieve data from it. The dock is very easy to set up and works well to read the drive.

I was also able to get things from a few 2.5" SATA SSDs to set them up for another machine, so all in all this unit has been a good purchase. It is well constructed and unlike some of the other USB cable devices which are typically limited to 2.5" SATA styled drives, this dock has performed perfectly each and every time.

It is also quite small so doesn't take up a large area unless you are connecting the 3.5" IDE drive to it which requires the dock to lie flat with the drive off to one side. Having a separate power switch also means it is only enabled when you need it to be.

I chose this device because it had USB3 and was the only one on Amazon that had no negative reviews, and despite being a bit more expensive, it has proven to be a good decision. It is fast, simple and means I can use all the old disks that have accumulated after upgrades. One thing to be aware of (this is not a criticism, just a statement of fact) is that the device was sent from Germany, and so took a bit longer to arrive than anticipated, which meant I had it one weekend later. Not a problem, just something of which to be aware.

I've used it for a week or so now, primarily to allow the rebuild of a laptop, and it has not given the slightest problem, and unlike some of the others, its SOLID!

This by far and away the best multi format hard disk dock that there is out there. I have many, many docks that I have bought over the years but this simple dock allows me to connect different type and sizes of disk very easily. the best feature is that you can connect your Very old IDE disks at the same time as a SATA disk and copy files from one to the other without having to first copy to your machine, swap disks and then copy back again.

Just buy this, you won't be disappointed.

I've only just unpacked this product and the build quality is of a high enough standard!

However having now inspected the product it would seem as though this device is designed primarily for sata hard drives as only they can be positioned in the upright standing position. IDE hard drives however connect via the side of the device and then the green stand must be detached so that it can lie flat!

I will concede that this is shown via the product images but I never paid it enough mind and assumed (incorrectly) that this was an optional configuration. By no means will I be returning this product as I'm gradually migrating away from IDE entirely!

This may go without saying but as the HD is so exposed an element of safety may need to be considered for both the HD and perhaps around children!

It works well and is really usefull. When I wanted to scan an old EIDE disk before throwing it, there was a problem, but then it turned out that the disk was defective and did not work when installed inside the PC either. Other disks worked fine. I was able to copy a Linux system onto the disk of an old Laptop on a desktop windows system, bringing the laptop back to life. I am also using it to backup the whole system disk using a standalone Acronis.

I bought this to recover data from sold old hard drives. It seems to do the job and be nice and simple to use - just plug it in - but a bit expensive, but the USB 3.0 is probably worth it for your sanity. It also worked well with the IDE and SATA drives I used, only exception was an ancient laptop drive which was "kind of" IDE, but I would have been pleasantly surprised if that worked.
