This is an interesting mix of Orishas chants, jazz and odd other bits of Cuban-ness. The instrumentation is quite sparse (percussion aside) with vocals well to the fore. It is an interesting paradox in some ways; some of the jazz elements offer a slick and more complex feel, there's the blend with more earthy Orishas rhythms, but there's a slight rawness to the production which makes it all very immediate. It's certainly hard to pigeon hole. As such I'd be cautious in some ways of giving the work a wholehearted recommendation unless I knew someone's tastes fairly well; but I love it!

I came across this on a facebook share and immediately listened to their River track on youtube. Within ten minutes I had ordered the album. Once it arrived it has been played and played and played. Their voices are brilliant, the songs are clever, sad, dark and uplifting. The music has many influences and reminded me of a whole host of other styles and artists and yet it is also strangely unique. I will be looking out for future work by Ibeyi and will be buying this for some of my friends.

I've looked for years for an album (ANY album) that could compare to the first 2 or 3 albums by Zap mama. I finally found one! This is superb. If you have even a passing interest in this genre of music, go do a search for Ibeyi on You Tube, listen to "Live @ Les Inrocks Philips" and then come back here and buy this album. I just can't stop playing it! Can't wait for the next one. Given the age of these twin sisters, they've got amazing things ahead.

Admit my tastes are "eclectic", but this is just phenomenal. Press play, sit back and immerse yourself.

I love this CD its so different I cant even pigeon hole it. I accidentally came across their song River on You Tube and I was instantly hooked and this CD didn't disappoint me also and for those with a keen ear for something a little different. then they should give them a listen.

Its very simple music, 2 sisters with a piano and a drum.
Its so simple at first that its a bit disappointing, but slowly it charms you and its a very nice album.
Top tracks are
Mama Says (deep and soulful)
Stranger/ Lover (has a bit more tempo)

No one here dislikes this music which means this is a no brainer purchase..Cuban jazz influenced hip-hop.Saw them live in south of France and they were fantastic. This is a top ten album of 2015. Essential for the open minded eclectic music fan.
