I brought this printer as my first venture into 3D Printing and, with no knowledge or understanding of what I was buying I took a big risk (this printer does not seem to appear on any Top 10 lists around the net), but am so pleased I took the risk as this printer is fantastic.
Printer arrived Very Well Packaged, and whilst it was not on next day delivery, it was received quiet quickly.
The guidance/advice given in the manual was spot on, by following it to the letter I had a very successful 1st print (printed a spare part for the printer) and have had successive prints since.
The quality of the finished prints are excellent, I made an iPhone 5 case (downloaded from thingiverse) and it fits perfectly, so I'm now looking forward to more successful prints.
Would I recommend this printer to anyone else interested in getting into 3D Printing? Yes for sure!
Would I recommend INKBETHINK as a company? Yes for sure!
I've asked a number of questions of the companies support team, answers have come back same day, so real support backup.
I gave this printer 5 Stars and would have given 10 if I were able too.
It arrived well within the suggested arrival date and packaged extremely well in terms of organization within the box of all the smaller pieces.
Whilst some of the reviews have said it can be used straight out of the box, this is not strictly the case. The callibration and figuring out where certain things went took time. If you're a novice it requires patience, ensuring you read the detailed, but very explanatory manuel and as we did, contact with INKBETHINK themselves which was almost immediate and detailed in email explanation and consistent.
I read the manuel, my son callibrated the elements accordingly (the printer is not a kit; it is build, but certain axis, wires etc need attaching).
We also spent several hours with Stefan who talked us through every stage from callibration, to downloading the appropriate software; understanding how it worked, why it worked, other softwares for different things to eventually printing. His customer service was second to none and I can't speak more highly of him. We were in touch all through the weekend and the following week, as we learned along the way.
He wants for you to understand the printer; it's capabalities and the software and all it can do, in order for you to get the best out of it. His attention to detail and his persistence in ensuring we covered all bases to discover what was happening when printing didn't go according to plan was reassuring even in moments of thinking we would never manage it.
I had times of despair when I felt blinded by science, but Stefan knows his stuff and never did he say 'it's a problem'. Always, 'we will fix it, don't worry'. I must add any issues were not necessarily product issues, but our lack of understanding to the degree needed to resolve ourselves and he was very willing to help us.
As a result, we have become very knowledgable on how the software works, for printing, callibrating, slicing, repairing files etc, more than my son already knew.
I write this review as a novice and not from one of technical experience and from the perspective of, if you wish to purchase, but have limited knowledge, then for customer experience alone, this is the one to go for, but I must also add, this printer is for more than just the novice. The printing bed is heated and prints decent sizes products and the quality is good for the price. It is simple, but aesthetically pleasing to look at and whilst you can hear it printing, it is not noisy or irritating. Perfectly fine for a home or office.
About 330 gms of black filment is provided, which was more than enough to be going on with. We purchased a spool of blue NuNus PLA filament and this did not work well with the Inkbethink extruder. We stopped immediately and ran the filmament through so as not to cause damage. It is important to check with InkBeThink if you wish to use other inks before you do.
They have their own ink, but due to location there are time constraints and so not next day delivery, but they do suggest RigidInk, whom we have used to good satisfaction. They have an 8 (or 10) colour pack of smaller amounts of a wide range of colours. Most of them work well, but it seems certain colours don't always do the same job. Overall though, we would use this company again in conjunction with this printer.
All in all this has been an enlightening experience. I myself have learnt so much and my son is extremely happy with this product.
For the price and the customer service, we made the best choice for sure. I highly recommend it for novices and for advanced users alike.
The bearings under the bed are held "firmly" in place using......masking tape!
It ships with a power supply from a PC, no nice adapter or power pack. It is literally an ATX power supply from a PC case with some tape over the ends of some of the connectors. We have to re-solder most of the connections because they the just fell out due to not being soldered in the first place.
The software it comes with suggest that the bed temperature when, attempting, to print ABS should be 110 degrees but the bed cannot actually get that hot! The hottest we could get it to was 105.
Does it make nice prints? No, not really. The quality is low and it makes lots of random mistakes for no real reason.
I would not buy this again, I would not recommend you buy this 3D printer.
The heated bed is screwed down the corners but the heads stick up meaning the glass can't sit flat against it at the edges, jobs often lift in the corners.
The manual is incorrect in several points, mainly in telling you where to plug the switches into, which I had to repair as the wires fell out.
