Impossible to use with CD/DVD drive because of space

This SATA/IDE converter has a female IDE socket which means you have to plug it into your IDE hard drive or CD/DVD drive. In my case, there was insufficient clearance between the DVD drive and the power supply to be able to install it in the case.

I suspect this will almost always be the case for any 5 1/4 inch CD/DVD/BD drive. It could also be a problem with 3.5 inch hard drives.

I ordered a male-male IDE adapter to use in conjunction with an old IDE cable, so I could reposition the converter away from the power supply, but this did not work, because the simple male-male adapter ends up reversing the position of the pins.

I have now ordered another type of male-male adapter to try and fix this, but still waiting for it to arrive.

The converter works fine - I can connect my DVD to my SATA motherboard, but I can't install it in my computer case.

Bottom line - if you order this converter to connect your IDE drive to a SATA motherboard, you will likely have problems installing it.

I have NO idea what the other reviewer was doing that made him think this does not work, perhaps HE/SHE had no idea what they were doing when they installed it and maybe they should NOT fiddle with things they know little about and leave UNFAIR feedback on this item.
I have had many years of experience building computers in the past and this is the first time that I have tried one of these converters and THIS one works brilliantly and I am very impressed by the performance that it delivers.
So please take note this DOES WORK and I think you SHOULD buy it, if connecting it to a PATA hard disk drive make sure you connect it the right way round with the power connector on the board is closest to to power connector on the hard disk drive and that the SATA data cable is connected to the connector closest to the power connector also a good idea to have the hard disk jumper set to CABLE SELECT to avoid complications.
Also make sure to connect the board AND hard disk to a power supply !!!
SIMPLE !!!

MAKE SURE IDE CONNECTOR IS ALIGNED TO PINS

I initially thought it was faulty.
However IDE connector is slightly smaller than standard lead so it is possible to connect in such a way that the incorrect drive pins are connected to adapter (with some not connected on one side). Make sure connector's cable key is centered on drive's notch. Sounds like stating the obvious, but when most connectors only fit the correct way, it's easy to be complacent.

Used successfully to connect old IDE CD/DVD to new ASRock H61M-VS Socket 1155 motherboard - able to boot from CD via this adapter.

Just a quick review to say this item works fine for me.
Using a SATA SSD on a motherboard with only IDE ports.
The silk screening on the PCB tells you where to connect the SATA cable, depending on which mode you want (IDE drive to SATA port or vice versa).
As others have said- remember to power the PCB AND the drive.
Loses a star for being grubby - looks like it had some sort of gunge on the PCB- quickly cleaned off with IPA.

Delivery was quick and package included the device, a power cable and a sata cable.
I intended to use it for hooking up a sata drive to a ide host on my motherboard as I have run out of sata ports.
So following the picture on the package as there were no instructions I hooked up the device and tested it, unfortunately the drive was not getting recognised in bios or windows, so I changed the cables around, no luck, changed the power cable over still no luck so I gave up for a couple days.
I came back to it a day or so later and tried again this time testing it with hdd's and other dvd drives I managed to get it to work and it finally saw the device in bios (after several failed attempts) got into windows and the device was present so I attempted to access the drive, windows froze up and after frocing explorer to restart the device vanished and it went back to not working.
Since I have gone and got a older ata dvd rom and cable and used that instead with no issue so the only thing I can tell is that the fault is the device as the sata cable worked with my sata hdd, the ide port works with my ata dvd drive so it cant be that and as i used several different power cables with have worked with other pci cards so it would seem that either the device is faulty or just isnt up to the job.

It works. You just need to plug the SATA lead into the correct port on the back of the converter - depending on how you're connecting a device. It also requires power from a molex. the convertar (similar to that of a floppy drive) is included int he package. Basically, the sata converter can aither be plugged directly into the motherboard - to use a SATA hard disk connected to an IDE socket on motherboard, OR it can be used to connect an IDE DRIVE to a SATA port on the motherboard. Genius. The only decision is which sata connector to use on the converter. there are two. Here's a way to choose: try one, if it doesn't work, its the other one! Works brilliantly. No probs whatsoever. Really easy to install.

I bought this adapter so that I could use my IDE DVD drive with my new SATA-only motherboard. Care has to be taken when attaching the power cable as the connector is not very sturdy but once the board is securely in place it works perfectly. I originally thought that the supplied SATA cable was faulty (and wrote an initial 3 star review based on this) but subsequently realised that this must have been finger trouble. Delivery was quicker than stated and the product was well packaged. Four and a half stars would be more appropriate because of the flimsy power connector but as 'A Brilliant Planet' were so concerned about my 'faulty cable' comment I think they deserve five. I will definitely consider using this company again.
