HASH(0x9672254c) out of 5 stars I love it! 27 Aug. 2007
By Alice in Wondland - Published on
I suppose that like most women I had always assumed that I produced enough lubricant naturally, and that bottled lubricants were for older women or those with some sort of a physical problem. Well, I have learned differently! During extended foreplay a woman's natural lubricants aren't always enough to keep her experiencing the optimum of pleasure. A lubricant such as this one reduces or eliminates unpleasant friction, and it makes everything slide smoothly and pleasantly along.

ID Glide is a water-based lubricant, which means that it is unlikely to promote a yeast infection, and it is quick and easy to clean up. Unlike silicone and oil-based lubricants it is friendly both to your body and to your toys.

Also, beyond all that, I have learned that ID Glide makes an excellent massage fluid. Its thick formula means that it won't simply run off, but can placed where you wanted and then spread out and into the skin. ID Glide is both flavor and scent free, which means that it leaves no trace behind and gives it a natural feel to it that I love. Buy one of the larger size bottles, such as this one, so that you can give a great massage, and not feel like you have to scrimp with the lubricant!

Overall, I love the feeling I get when I use ID Glide, and know that you will too. I highly recommend this product to all adults!

FYI: In general, there are three types of lubricants and each has its pros and cons. Water-based lubes are easy to cleanup and are unlikely to cause yeast infections, but on the down side they do need to be renewed every half hour or less due to drying. Oil-based lubes tend to have maximum slipperiness and last longest, but can lead to yeast infections and tend to break down latex condoms and toys quite quickly. Silicone-based lubes fall in between these two, being slicker and longer lasting than water-based lubes, but they do require longer clean up times, can stain sheets and clothing, and will eventually break down silicone toys.

HASH(0x96724b1c) out of 5 stars Glycerol May Feed Yeast! Great Otherwise. 9 Jan. 2012
By Brandon Curtis - Published on

Candida albicans is the yeast strain most commonly associated with human yeast infections. This species IS capable of growing on glycerol as its 'sole carbon and energy source'. Glycerol is, however, a 'non-fermentable carbon source' for most yeast strains. This means that it can be utilized for growth by the yeast only if sufficient oxygen is also present, and even then it is not as efficient as growth on a fermentable carbon source. While yeast will grow on glycerol, it won't grow nearly as well as it would on glucose or some other simple sugar or starch, especially in places where oxygen is limited.

I concur with the reviewers who state that those who have or are very prone to yeast infections should probably avoid lubricants such as this containing glycerol (aka glycerin). The makers of Astroglide apparently agree, as they now offer a glycerin-free product for this very reason:
Glycerin & Paraben Free Astroglide Personal Lubricant, 2.5-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2)
Astroglide Glycerin & Paraben Free Personal Lubricant & Moisturizer 2.5 oz
Astroglide Glycerin & Paraben Free Personal Lubricant 2.5 oz (Quantity of 5)
All Natural Astroglide Personal Lubricant & Moisturizer, 2.5 Fluid Ounces
Astroglide Glycerin & Paraben Free Personal Lubricant 2.5 oz (Pack of 4)

The preservatives in this product, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, and methylparaben, are fungistatic, meaning that they prevents fungi (like yeast) from growing. It is impossible to know without experiments whether the net effect of this product will be to promote or prevent the growth of yeast!

If this is not a major concern for you... this is otherwise a very high quality product at an excellent price. It dries up relatively quickly as anything water-based will, but it can be restored to usefulness with a few drops of water. If it absolutely MUST NOT dry up, you don't mind more cleanup and there's nothing made of silicone involved, go with silicone-based instead:
Wet Platinum Premium Lubricate , 8.9-Ounce Bottle

Ingredients, as listed on the bottle:
Glycerin - slippery when wet
Propylene Glycol - moisturizer
Cellulose Gum - thickener
EDTA - protects product from oxidation and discoloration
Carbomer - thickener
PEG-90 - slippery when wet
Tetrahydroxypropyl ethylenediamine - similar to EDTA
Methylparaben - preservative
Sodium Benzoate - preservative
Potassium Sorbate - preservative

=== Update (2012.03.25, Two Months)
17.6oz is a lot of liquid! No problems whatsoever.
Seriously considering doing an in-vitro yeast growth experiment - comment if interested!

HASH(0x96724f54) out of 5 stars Decent product 23 Feb. 2011

I bought this product a while back and this had a high rating so I decided to buy this. This was my first purchase of this type so I decided to just get it as a starter. It is a quality product however it might just be me but I'm not quite sure how long lube is supposed lasts until you need to re-apply, but this lasts about 5 minutes before needing more. Also be sure to clean this off of you, because if even a little bit is left it starts to irritate your skin and it makes it feel really sticky. As for the lube effect it's really effective, but as for a first time buyer of these products I'm satisfied with the product!

HASH(0x96724f6c) out of 5 stars The best water-based lubricant on the market. 19 Feb. 2010

Out of the basic choices between water-based lubricant's and silicon-based lubricants, water-based rules if you don't want to take that extra 3 minutes to wipe off the silicon-based lubricant from your you know what; although you'll have to take 10 seconds in between you're "session" and the pillow-talk (c'mon guys; trust me, the pillow-talk pays off in the long-run) to wipe off the water-based lubricant's from your you know what anyways, whereas the silicon-based lubricant will dry in a much less stickier way. If you're doing the freaky-deaky in the pool or in the shower, grab a silicon-based one. If you don't care about staining your sheets with a lubricant (that's me) and can afford a more functional and expensive product, use a silicon-based product. If you're looking for something to use all-body instead of just for penetration and use cheap bedding, the silicon-based products will leave you with lot's of memories. If you incorporate silicon-based toys into your smack-downs, stay away from the silicon-based one's as it's a sure-fire way to ruin them. I have yet to meet a woman who likes to see her billion thread-counts stained by lubricants, so just buy the ID as your primary and a silicon-based one like "wet platinum" for your occasional slicky-doowops. A side benefit of Id (and other water-based lubricants) is that it tastes sweet, as opposed to the silicon-based ones, which tastes like, well, silicon. So, if you switch between penetration and going down for a snack, you won't having to worry about the flavors clashing. Use a plastic spread and your cheaper sheets for these occasions and you'll be okey-dokey. If you're a dude reading this, do this sheet-changing for your lady and the benefits will go beyond using silicon-based lubricants, if you know what I mean. If you want to use an oil-based lubricant, go hide somewhere. Seriously, the negatives for oil-based are too numerous to mention and are a definite baby-making-enhancer; so stay away unless you enjoy major "uh-oh" moments. As always, Amazon will get you either oil-based or silicon-based at a phenomenal price. Be safe.

It is good but it is still leaves a sticky residue, unlike the Wet products. It is thicker than Wet though. Will be getting Wet again because I can't stand a sticky residue.
