Wow what a brilliant zombie novel and one with a twist or two!
Jacob Plummer is our main character, a journalist in Germany to cover the unveiling of a machine that will save our resources. However Jacob awakes to a blast and a world unlike anything he could have imagined. As a journalist he keeps a log of everything he experiences along the way.
The book goes at a pretty good pace, lots of gore to satisfy our horror fans and a few funnies along the way (along with blood, guts, gore and even budding relationships). Jacob finds himself flung into hero, survivalist and leader mode before having to make some tough decisions for the sake of himself and the survivors along the way.
What I really liked about this zombie movie is we have a how and a why to the outbreak and I have read many many zombies books and only one before this gave this. I could hardly put it down, definately for me a page turner and I will be buying the next installment when it is out. a 4 out of 5 for me.
Jacob, a reporter, is awoken by the bang and the subsequent obliteration of most of the human population. Unfortunately, the human population reanimates and is quickly roaming the streets of Munich, looking for lunch....
This book has some good elements that aren't the standard zombie fare - there are different types of zombies, a mad scientist and a very likable feisty red-head female lead who is pretty damn impressive in her knowledge and ability - a top choice to be with during the Zombie apocalypse.
And my favourite part of all is, you'll never guess the ending.
A well written book and I'll certainly be reading the next installment!
I thought the story had a unique twist to the telling, as well. It sucked me right into the middle of the zombie apocalypse and I could hardly put it down.
The formatting issues mentioned by other reviewers have now been fixed. There were also a couple of plot points that seemed to be unfinished, but I'm assuming that's because this is the first of the trilogy, so I look forward to seeing them answered.
All in all I consider this a great read and highly recommend it. I'm very much looking forward to the next in the series.
you are left wanting more, but only because you want to read more of these likeable characters in this great world.
Overall I really enjoyed it, there is plenty, in fact masses, of gore and guts and the undead shambling around, and lots of running and screaming. I had a one small niggle, which was that he veered between describing the youngest character as a ten year old, a teenager and at on several occasions, as a woman, which was slightly strange, as if he had forgotten her age. I also felt perhaps isn't overly familiar with how a ten year old would talk, as she sounded very adult most of the time. But that aside, it was a good story with an interesting ending.
Just wanted to mention that my copy had some formatting issues, and the text was in alternating blocks of two different fonts, which was a little irritating but not enough to stop me reading the whole book.
