Good if you were there

As an ex teenage Toyah fan myself, this book rang a lot of dusty bells. Up front, it’s not great literature, and this does occasionally become irritating. Writers are advised to « show not tell », this book tells, tells and then tells some more. That aside the memories evoked are priceless, I was at the Old Grey Whistle Test Xmas eve gig at Drury Lane,, and I had forgotten much that Chris Lamb has revived for me; saving up to buy a Sheep Farming in Barnet, some of the editions of Sounds and NME that he refers to.
I enjoyed the r ad but I suspect that had not been a teenaged Toyah fan myself it would have read like a « what I did on my holidays » essay. I dropped out of the Toyahverse with the release of the Changeling, and migrated to The Damned and The Banshees so it was interesting to read how much that world rolled on and for how long. I will go and listen to Sheep Farming again with fresh interest
