A must read!!
Nina was a normal girl, if a little lonely. She lived with her cat and had a best friend who was a nasty piece of work, but Nina was completely blind to it. After she is brutally attacked, her life changes completely and she is a broken woman until a year later when a new neighbour moves in next door.
I can't really tell you much about the 'hero' without spoiling it, but lets just say he wasn't what I was expecting. He is not a BBF you can fall in love with, let's put it that way.
Also, the writing felt off, like it was a bit rushed and forced. Very over descriptive at times and I often had to read sentences again to make sense of them. Overall, I was quite disappointed, and although I will continue to read Ker Dukey's dark stuff, I will probably steer clear of anything quite this effed up.
This is a dark, thriller (not romance IMO) told in dual POV.
ARC gratefully received from the author in exchange for an honest review
Nina has survived what was the most awful of situations and after retreating into her shell she has finally begun to take tentative steps towards piecing her life back together.
She has be proactive in some respects in as much as she has really tried to change who she is but what if the demon that is squeezing your subconscious just isn’t ready to let you go?
What if, no matter what you do it will never be enough?
When you have no way of controlling or mitigating the actions of others, you are vulnerable and Nina is vulnerable but she just has no idea how much!
Her baby steps are not being taken alone, she has Devon, her neighbour, someone that she has begun to feel comfortable with, someone that she feels is there to support her, he is helping – or so she thinks because does he have an agenda of his own?
Devon is far from the friendly neighbour that she thinks he is, honestly I was aghast at the depth of his character and not in a good way.
His past is dark, very dark but he is a master at hiding that part of himself, he grew up with few social interactions and the a total disregard for the social niceties in life- he has no feeling for what it is like to feel, what it is like to love and especially what it is like to respect, his father was a despicable human being and he created his children both Noah and Devon in his likeness, he forged they hearts from stone – it was so disturbing to read, although I have to say that it was Noah that thought was nothing short of completely bat s*** crazy!!Read more ›
Oh my goodness I don't know where to begin writing this review! I'm still a little blown away by this book! This is another collaboration by Ker Dukey and DH Sidebottom, and again I cannot tell that this was written by more than one person, it's brilliant!
This is a very dark read an I suggest you take note of the warning at the start of the book before reading- nice touch! I love dark reads and this absolutely hit the spot for me!
There's some serious twists, and this is a total mind twist of a book! Seriously I'm still trying to get my head round it!
We follow Nina Drake as she is unknowingly being watched and photographed and is eventually brutally attacked! Meet the monsters Noah and Devon, brothers who quite frankly lead a sick life killing and raping people for money! There's a heck of a lot more to it than this but I don't want to spoil this for anyone just know you will not be disappointed!
Now I'm going to go tell all my book friends to one-click this baby! Cannot recommend this enough!!

I am a big fan of Ker Dukey and enjoy most of her books. While I appreciate how well written this book is, the theme runs a little too dark for me at times. Read morePublished 5 months ago by Jodie Easson
