BEACH BOYS THE
Top Customer Reviews
Unlike a lot of their other compilation albums, "I Love You" contains a lot more non-hit songs, and all of them are pure gens: the magnificent rocker (Good To My Baby), the beautiful and sentimental masterpiece (Please Let Me Wonder), the homages they pay to their idols, (I Was Made To Love You, Devoted To You, There's No Other [Like My Baby], and of course, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Then I Kissed Her and I Can hear Music).
This album also contains the famous songs like Good Vibrations, God Only Knows and Help Me, Rhonda a long with their early day stuff like Surfer Girl.
If you have not got any Beach Boys albums yet, go out and get this one. It was one of the first albums I got and really showed me that there was another side to the Beach Boys. A true and real trasure.
However, their early music, as original and brilliant as it was, was synonymous with the 'Californian teenage surfing scene' and as such risked being viewed as dated as time went on, like the 'Flower Power' music phenomenon. This album, almost entirely written and performed by Brian Wilson and completed in 1977, demonstrates that The Beach Boys are more than a 'one-trick-pony' and it's pop/rock feel reflects a new dimension to Brian Wilson's talents and emergence from a period between 1973-75 of heavy drug abuse.
Whilst there are some of the 'golden oldies' such as "Good Vibrations", "God Only Knows", "Help Me Rhonda", and "Surfer Girl", there are some excellent new ones such as the rocking "Good To My Baby", and romantic "Please Let Me Wonder".
On some tracks Brian Wilson's voice is very gruff and this coupled with the unconventional sound values throughout, in contrast with previous albums, is a little strange but overall this is a good release.
