To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
So as context, I owned the Astro a50 gen 3’s, these are imo the best wireless headphones, they’re also very highly priced. I wanted to move to wired as after long periods of gaming my astros would need a charge. I happened to stumble on to a review of these headphones on YouTube and they really got me thinking, so I decided to try them out. After a few hours I realised they’re as good as my astros but more than half the price!
Pro’s - Well built Lightweight Inline dac Braided, long cable Easy to use dac No software needed Comfortable for larger heads Great noise cancellation Look smart Works on many devices Mic sounds amazing Game/music quality is amazing
Cons - Dolby isn’t great, fine on sp games, not so good for mp games. I barely use it. I can’t really think of any other cons!
After well over a month of use I’m still telling all my friends how good these are and I sold my astros. I think that speaks volumes....... :D
I play Xbox a lot. My other mic, a Steel Series Sibera 200, broke after four years of daily use (no sound I left headphone) so it was time for a change.
I looked all over and the Hyper X cloud revolver got glowing reviews. I decided it was pricey but would get so much use it would be worth getting.
It came, and the box was impressive and well presented. I opened it up and my first thought was, it’s big! It’s a large headset, that is non adjustable. It didn’t fit well. It was loose, and due to its size and weight moved around a lot. Not a good start.
The cable where is plugs into the Xbox One controller is about 3 meters long. Annoyingly so. It got caught up under my legs or chair wheels.
The sound quality is very good. I can’t fsult it. For sound reliant games like PUBG it’s brilliant. You can pinpoint where the noise is coming from with great accuracy.
The mic however. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM. Communication is why I play. I play with others, and talking is key! The mic, however, is so sensitive all anyone could hear when I was in party chat was THEMSELVES! ECHO!!
If you play a lot you know how annoying that friend with echo is. The mic is so sensitive it picks up everything they were saying, and the game noise too, from the headphones.
I changed controllers, played with the Xbox settings, I even wrapped it with sound muffling and nothing fixed it. It’s a sensitivity issue.
I couldn’t play with friends, unless on mute constantly. It ruined the experience. If you like social gaming, don’t buy it. Save yourself the £100. IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING I RETURNED IT.
You can’t solve the issue on Xbox. On PC you could turn the mic sensitivity down, Xbox doesn’t let you. Not a good experience.
This headset has a good overall feel with a great build quality, however it has some major issues which caused me to send them back. First of all the headset is not supported with most computers and you usually need to buy an extra adaptor to go with it to make it work. The reason i got a refund was because, whatever application i used to call on, the person on the receiving end could hear what i could hear. For example if i was playing a game such as Grand Theft Auto V and talking to someone, they would be able to hear the game. HyperX have not tried to fix it (software side) and there doesn't seem much hope for future updates. Many people i know have had this headset and they have had the same problem, as i have been on the receiving end of a call. In my opinion i would NOT purchase this headset and i would maybe save a little more money to get a better headset (i chose the Logitech G930 Wireless headset) as this headset doesn't seem worth buying if the company doesn't bother fixing the problems.
Ive previously mentioned that this headset is nothing like what ive previously owned. its actually worked for more than 8 months to a year which was my previous life expectancy for my past 7 or 8 headsets from varying brands. There is nothing overly special with the headset. it has somewhat cheap but sturdy plastic frame decent cushioning on the top headband and perfectly good ear pads that will give you continued comfort for long gaming sessions or in general use case. i wear my headset anywhere from 7 to 16 hours a day while frequently taking them off multiple times within the day.
The core and most notable strong point here with the headset is that, and i can reassure you on this. the build quality internally is beyond great. strong solder connections that are durable and wont degrade or detach / snap from frequent build up of heat or smacking the headset around or yanking on the cord etc. Ontop of great sound quality and great bass depth that wont peak out means for the price its pretty dam fantastic. and its also comfortable even with people that have big ears like i do!
The only thing i dislike here is that even after nearing 2 years of use. the earpads and the overall rigidity are degrading pretty bad. the headset is so lose fitting now that its a cause of frequent adjustment in the sizing of the headset and the ear pads are flaking off the glued on fake leather like material. nothing particularly wrong with this especially if you compare it to competitors. they all do the same but hyper x has made theirs last the longest in my own experience.
The downside is that they dont have replacements that you can order from their shop. which i think is a big L in this situation. you have a good product and you know the earpads are going to crap out first is most cases but dont offer replacements. no one wants to continue wearing a headset when the pads are flaking off crap onto their head and shoulders *no pun intended*
overall my score is now a 5/5. but i understand some peoples experiences might vary. if you have an extra £20 or so to spare. look into getting the cloud headsets. bigger drivers and better frequency range for a overall better listening experience and its more comfortable even for bigger ears like i do. and if you find the ear pads are degrading quicker than normal. fear not because they actually have replacement pads for £6 that you can get. so you have that luxury of ordering replacements compared to this, which you would need to order a replacement headset overall.
