I will start by saying I have been looking for a replacement for my g390's which gave up the gas a month ago. I tried the Corsair H2100's and had to return them to Amazon due to a ridiculously tight fit. This headset is a breath of fresh air, the fit is absolutely perfect and I forget I am wearing them. The sound is also excellent - the bass very strong without being overbearing or rattly, and the mids/highs being very clear and not tinny at all. One thing I would say is to use the Stereo mode (press of a single button, very nifty) when listening to music as the 7.1 introduces some echo. This is not a problem in games however.

You need to be aware however that Amazon has a bad batch of these headphones, when this headset was first released it shipped with a faulty USB soundcard which means you get some crackling/popping whenever any audio is being played through the headset (see http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2533451/hyperx-cloud-popping-crackling-sounds.html). However due to Kingston's STELLAR support this is not an issue, if your headset has this issue just contact Kingston support, tell them whats happening and link to that thread, and they will ship you a new and updated USB soundcard free of charge, mine arrived the next business day after I contacted them which was a very fast turnaround.

I definitely recommend this headset, it's absolutely fantastic.

My old headset (Logitek Wireless) were dying a death, and I needed a new set to replace them. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do wear headphones for many hours, and I needed a set that were versatile. Able to be used for the odd bit of gaming, listening to music for extended periods, talking on chat, and to be comfortable, with good quality sound.

Now, bear in mind I have used many, many computer and audio headphones over the years, all with their faults and flaws, from the cheapest mono earpiece up to top of the line Bose audio headphones. (Which I'm going to use from time to time by way of comparison with the Kingston). And I would choose these over any I've ever used or owned, Bose included.

Firstly, everything about these headphones says "quality". You can see the people who put them together really do love what they do. The box they come in, is beautifully presented, and looks really nice from the outside, and the inside.

Unwrapping and looking at the headset, that impression of quality continues. Thick, tangle-resistant cord. Extending at full length even fits my extra-large skull, and the cups completely cover the ears, providing passive noise filtering that works surprisingly well at blocking out background sound even before you turn anything on. The crown atop your head is memory foam, while the earcups are large and well cushioned. I've used them for many hours without feeling like I even had them on. The build of them feels solid, too and astonishingly, the build quality and materials used, are significantly better than my three-times-the-price Bose headset. Yes, you read that right. Better.

You can also use with the 7.

    Amazingly versatile piece of kit.

This headset is an absolutely superb combination. First of all it is a "standard" set of over ear headphones with a 3.5 mm jack connector. These are beautifully made. Soft comfortable ear cushions and a braided wire both suggest high quality. The mounts for the earphones themselves (the bit in red on the product photo) are made of metal and the possibility of breakage when inadvertently taking them off one-handed is vastly reduced. The ear cushions are not only comfortable they also exclude a significant amount of external sound. They are not active noise cancelling, but for me the fit was good enough to provide a really first class exclusion of external noise. I could really immerse myself in the sound I was hearing. The sound quality is excellent too, with a clean capture across the frequency range. I think that these would be very good value if I stopped the review there.

But there is also a detachable microphone which captures voice perfectly acceptably.

And then there is the usb gizmo which takes this to a new level. This is actually a little sound card. I plugged the USB into my computer set the sound to use the HyperX as input and output. I then plugged in the headphones - and at this point you may note that you can use any headphones of your choice with a 3.5mm jack plug.

I listened to a BBC radio drama of recent broadcast and the sound quality through the headset was excellent. But then press the 7.1 button and the sound card does a little bit of magic and the broadcast moves to a new dimension. Voices are projected to various parts and the sound effects are breathtakingly clear. There is nothing special about the original file so this sound card is doing some very nifty processing magic.

The best headset for £70. Hell if you ask me its the best headset below £150. Let me explain...

Having been the owner of the Philips Fidelio X2, arguably a very highly rated, £250+ set of headphones, I realised that I played a lot of games where I required a microphone and had to seek a comparitively good headset with microphone but not lacking in the sound quality department.

I have tried and tested around 5 different headsets and these are by far the best.

The build quality is VERY good, I would say for the price but if they were priced at £100+ I would suggest that they were as good as the money suggested. They sit very comfortably on the head, with adjustable aluminium arm bands wrapped in squishy leatherette and interchangable ear muffs mean you can have a choice of leather or fabric.

The headset comes in a fantastic box with a letter written from the CEO printed on the lid, a nice touch I must admit. The microphone can be taken on and off with ease, meaning that if you want them to become a set of fantastic headphones its simply a quickly pull and done!

Speaking of sound quality, with my Sound Blaster Z sound card these really pack a punch, and I really mean it - not only in the lows but mids too, where traditionally gaming headsets do not focus (they want BIG BASS and stupidly whiney highs, something that this headset, thankfully, doesnt do out the box). The sounds are clear and the sound space is great, truly a good fit for multi-purpose use, whether you wish to game or listen to music.

I would recommend using a sound card with this headset.
