This is a terrific book that will help children overcome the fears they experience while using the potty. I highly recommend this book and think it will be enthusiastically received by parents and children alike. --Teri Crane, Author of Potty Train Your Child in Just One Day: Proven Secrets of the Potty Pro
It Hurts When I Poop! is a wonderful book. My daughter ... is prone to tummy aches when she holds everything in. Dr. Bennett's story provided her with knowledge about her body, confidence in her intelligence, and a plan to remedy the situation. I heartily recommend Dr. Benntt's smart, playful treatment of a frustrating problem. --Mary Kay Zuravleff, Author of The Bowl is Already Broken
Ryan is scared to use the potty. He's afraid to have a poop because he's afraid it's going to hurt. When Ryan's parents take him to visit Dr. Gold, she engages his imagination with the story of Bill the Coyote's messy house. She also shows him what happens inside the body, and explains how different foods make using the potty easy or hard. This story, along with Ryan's "poop program," will help young children gain the confidence they need to overcome this common problem and establish healthy habits.See all Product description

The graphics in this book are really bland and didn't really grab my boys attention. Improving these alone would make the book much more enjoyable.
I also think they could have made the book a bit more concise for young readers as I find my boy struggles to make it to the end without losing interest (he's only 2 though, so maybe this is aimed at older kids). I really like that it tried to explain what poo is and where it comes from, I think my son gets the basic concept now which is pretty cool. I'm not sure how I feel about the lists of foods in the book that are bad/good for making poos soft. For example, cheese and apples are fine if not eaten in excess and as part of a healthy diet. I think it's important to make children aware of food, but I would be worried that he would blame certain foods for his problems - which is definitely not the case for us anyway. The book explains that some of these foods are still good for you and suggests eating less in the 'poop plan' at the back but in the story it just lists them as foods that make poo hard.
So I would say it's worth getting, as there seem to be so few books that cover this problem, but it could be better.
Great for helping to encourage healthy foods and to take fear out of going to potty. There's a story in the middle that's a bit abstract ams we usually skipped it. But really helped get child poohing in toilet again!
The pictures are great my son loves dinosaurs but the story is FAR to long! He's 3 in 5 weeks time and there is no way he will sit through more than 3 pages of the book so this book would be best for older children.
