It is with a heavy heart that I must discourage serious boot users from going for Hunter boots. I have posted the same review under the Balmoral Neoprene for Men (sounds like a fetishist cologne).

Why the heavy heart? Because I have grown up in them since the early 1980s and I have always been well served by them. But since the change of ownership on 2006 and the relocation of many if not most of their manufacturing processes to China, the product appears to be utterly different, save for the all important "Hunter" label on the front.

My wife needed some decent boots for long, wet, muddy walks. Sick of replacing cheap uncomfortable boots every year, I decided to treat her to a pair of Lady Balmoral Neoprenes with accompanying Hunter fleece boot socks. She is very slim but with fairly solid ankles, but I was shocked when she said that she just couldn't wear them, just after a minute of walking about in the living room. The rubber was stiff, plasticky and quite rigid and the fold at the front of the boot when stepping forward pressed in. She also had something pressing hard up against the back of both ankles. The size was otherwise correct, if anything a little on the roomy side. Back they went.

I was pretty crestfallen - it was a bit like a foreigner spitting out a kindly proffered bit of Dairy Milk in disgust. This was a brand that I had used to destruction in the field in my youth and as such I hadn't even checked any reviews on it. I assumed that in light of my very positive experiences in the past - and the price - that quality and satisfaction were both a given.

I viewed a number of boots, and the cost and other peoples comments on sizing of these initially put me off but I am so glad I took the chance as they are possibly the best ever boots I have ever tried on - perfect fit and feels like walking on air with the cushioning inside - I am looking forward to the early morning and late evening walks with my dog and maintaining dry and very comfortable feet x

Great investment, so much so I have bought my other half the male version so he can enjoy walking too.

As a dog owner a decent pair of boots are of vital importance and I've worn Hunter Men's Balmoral's for awhile now so didn't hesitate to purchase a pair for my girlfriend with the onset of winter. The neoprene liners fit like slippers however please note that if you double these up with the Hunter socks they can be overly snug. A great boot non the less.

Ok so I purchased a pair of these about two years ago (not from amazon) they came and were incredibly comfy, as I expected they were quite big around my calves but I have skinny calves and wear them with jeans.

sadly after 12 weeks I noticed a crack in one of the boots across the side where the big toe would meet the foot, I assumed I had just got a faulty pair as I had only used them for walking the dog and the weather had been fine.
I returned them and got a second pair with little hassle (although I wasn't refunded my p&p which further added to the price) I was disappointed again as about 9 weeks later the same thing happened!
and not surprisingly the third pair I received did the same in about 14 weeks and I couldn't afford to pay the p&p a third time to send them back (i had already paid £20 on top of the cost of buying them) so was stuck with a third pair of boots with a hole so I cant even wear them as a "fashion welly"

I do a considerable amount of dog walking in them but for a supposedly sturdy working boot I wouldn't expect this to happen so quickly, I was very disappointed as I had worked on the assumption that Hunter really were great for what I wanted!

in fairness to Hunter my mum has the same model which she got at the same time with no problems - however she only walks the dog a few times per week with me. for those of you wanting a fashionable but warmer welly alternative then these are great but for anyone wanting them for the supposed heavy duty work that they were created for don't bother they will be a waste of money!

Bought these after returning some light weight Aigles. I have worn balmorals for years and can highly recommend. If you want a solid sturdy boot look no further, these are hardcore! Forget other peoples issues about Hunters being made in china and are poorly made, these boots are great and bear no comparison with Hunter originals or their festival range. These are technical boots that are beautifully made

I ordered a size 6 and found its a bit big. I get blisters on my heels if I walk too far or fast. I put 2 pairs of thick socks on to combat this and then struggle to get them off.
They are a lovely colour and are very comfy on the sole of your foot. Not too heavy and fit around my calf nicely with a small gap. Nice adjustable tag on the side which looks good too.
Lovely boot but recommend trying a size smaller 1st.
