It has been a while since I last read a Chris Ryan book yet after finishing Hunter Killer I am only kicking myself and asking why. Drawing on his experiences and vast knowledge of the areas he writes about, Chris writes stories which are vividly descriptive and scarily all too believable. The story told here was both relevant and frightening but near impossible to put down.

It continues the story of SAS hero Danny Black who previously appeared in Masters of War. I haven't read that book but didn't feel too much out of place as there's plenty of background given to get the reader up to speed. Following a suicide bombing in Central London Danny and his friend Spud are recruited to assassinate the men responsible for the attack before going after the main man Abu Ra'id on a journey that takes them from London to Yemen and back again on what really is a thrilling, fast paced and truly unputdownable read. Almost like a film in parts it was hugely enjoyable.

The very idea of another terrorist attack in London is horrifying and something we hope never to see, the scenes depicted here are quite brutal and not for the faint hearted. Danny and Spud are recruited by various senior members of MI5, MI6 and the CIA. Some of the characters are definitely a bit shady and leave you wondering whether they might have a hidden agenda or two. As the book went on I was both mesmerised and horrified at the situations that unfolded. Conspiracy theories and cover ups galore it was a thought provoking read.

What I particularly like is the way Chris adds humour into the story. Despite the job they have been given and the often life threatening situations the pair find themselves in, there's still an element of banter between them which helps lighten an otherwise quite serious novel.

London in turmoil subjected to a series of terrorist attacks. Danny black and the SIS have to deal with it. Gripping from the start, but all is not what it appears. It seems someone has a guilty secret. Top read and as usual expertly written.

This was my first ever Chris Ryan book. When I was half way through I found out this was the second installment in the Danny Black series. Thankfully you can read it as a stand alone book as there is plenty of backstory.

The subject matter is what got me to purchase the book as its topical and sadly believable in today's world. The story was well paced and had me hooked from start to finish. I grew fond of the characters very quickly and I will be going straight back to the bookshop to get book 1 tomorrow.

Already a Chris Ryan fan ( I am 55 years old and female ) was worried I would finally be disappointed with a book, didn't happen this is just as good as what I am used to reading from Chris. Highly recommend for females not just men.

A very good action packed tale. More fiction than fact but keeps the reader more than engrossed for the higher percentage of the tale, slightly over the top in many areas, but that is what the pull of Mr Ryan is,because no one is wholly sure !.

Brilliant, I absolutely loved this book. Definitely my kind of book with lots of action from the start.. Had me gripped right from the beginning and couldn't put it down. The Danny Black character is great. Can't wait to read more.

Wow! What a read! This book picks up the action some 6 months after the excellent Masters of War ends. This book betters Masters of War and I genuinely couldn't put it down.
I tend to read a lot of books and am a big fan of Vince Flynn, Brad Taylor, Ben Coes, Andy McNab and Boyd Morrison. Masters of War was my first Chris Ryan book and Hunter-Killer is my second. As I write this, I'm finding it hard to remember a book that thrilled me as much. I literally couldn't read fast enough at times, desperate to find out what happened next!
Beware though. Chris Ryan doesn't pull his punches and in Danny Black, we have a ruthless 'hero'.
I'm now about to start Murder Team, which is a Danny Black novella, and can't wait for Hellfire (also known as Fade to Black) in August.
If you like a tough thriller and books by the authors mentioned above, then you will love Chris Ryan's books ... Start with Masters of War and then strap yourself in for Hunter-Killer!

I used to get through a Chris Ryan book in a day from cover to cover but his recent books have been less enthralling ( and to be honest I get a bit tired of all the women being killed in what started to seem like a mysoginistic theme that ran through his books). This one is back on top form. Took me a lot longer to read but he's got back the spark. I guess because it is so relevant to what we hear on the news then it adds extra interest but this is genuinely a good story ( and the main female character is still breathing at the end - yippee).
