This film rules!!! Nonstop action from start to finish. Excellent acting from Lambert and his co stars. Lambert is witness to a ninja assasination and is in turn hunted by the makato an evil ninja clan. He teams up with a fanatical samurai who is the sworn enemy of the ninja. As you can imagine lots of bloody sword fights and the ninja are ruthless in their pursuit of Lambert (the scene on the train being my particular blood drenched favourite). The action leads to a unforgettable climax if you have seen Highlander you will love this. A must for Lambert fans ,ninja/action film fans, buy it you won't be dissapointed.

The Hunted. R1 DVD, R-rated. 1995.
The picture quality's great, widescreen 1.85:1 no black bars.
Christopher Lambert becomes embroiled in a ninja/samurai
feud in modern day Japan. Beautifully shot & well made,
i've been after this DVD for while. Apparently the U.K print
was cut, but this U.S version is complete, something about
'ninja throwing stars' must have upset the British censors.
The bullet train bit is quality through & through.
Extras: production notes, cast & film makers bios, film highlights
& trailer. Not watched extras (not much point.) Run time: 1hr 50min 2secs.

Although the concept of this film could have graced any trashy Hollywood action movie - especially with the addition of famous ersatz swordsman Christopher Lambert - with inspired direction and some well underplayed acting this film has a mastery of itself and of its genre which bridges the gap between US action movies and Japanese martial arts films.
If dissected carefully, the larger part of the plot is laughably unbelievable. It is the triumph of the direction and production that it overcomes all the usual obstacles of a Western film dealing with Eastern culture, and uses martial art film convention to present stunning action sequences and involve a lot of well place dramatic suspense.
The film has its own world complete with some of its own philosophy, hastily gleaned from contemporary and ancient Eastern sources. The sets and costumes are authentic and carefully designed into minute detail - the weapons are especially stunning, as well as frequently used.
This DVD I suspect will find its most appreciative audience with enthusiasts of martial art films, but its wider appeal and value is not to be under-estimated.
A stunning visual atmosphere, and highly recommended viewing.
