So who are Tito & Tarantula? Well, if you've seen 'From Dusk 'Til Dawn', you'll most likely remember them as the band that was playing in the vampire infested truckers' bar. Killer Latin rhythms, a fat guitar sound to die for, and the kind of smooth sound rarely found outside the Fun Lovin' Criminals.
Unfortunately, this album lacks the killer groove of 'Angry Cockroaches (Cucarachas Enojadas)' that graced 'From Dusk 'Til Dawn' (and their earlier album 'Taranatism'). What IS here is lots of atmospheric Latin based rock-blues, and some extremely solid guitar playing - Tito has developed his sensitive side, but at the expense of the raw edge that makes the earlier material so special.
The main influences seem to be Carlos Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan, but sadly wihtout the same inventiveness.
As for Hungry Sally, well she's an alien, reminiscent of Dilbert in Malcolm Rankin's fantasy novel Apocalypso - apparently she'll eat anything, and only gets her comeuppance when she develops a taste for people. As a musical story, the title track earns its beans - but overall the lyrics are also a little disappointing with less evidence of the humour in the first album.
If you haven't heard Tito & Tarantula before, I'd reccomend starting with the soundtrack of From Dusk 'Til Dawn and moving to this album once you know you like them.

This group is hardly known in the UK. They deserve a lot of credit for their diverse and original music mixing heavy rock with a Mexican twist and many would be surprised on how many film soundtracks their music can be found on.
Pity they never tour in the UK!
