Wasn't sure what to make of this at first. I bought it thinking it was a collection of weird things the Brits do and it took me a while to realize these are made up and not real. Don't know what that says about me but in my defence the British are a strange lot and I'm quite willing to believe they go dancing round windmills in order to choose the next village idiot! Once I'd gotten the idea, it turned out to be a really good fun read.

A strange collection of English traditions that might be real but probably aren't. Beautifully written and engaging it tells of such odd things as turtle rinsing and arrow catching. If we can believe in clog dancing and bog snorkling then frog racing and biscuit rolling may not be too hard to believe. Each little section gives historic details about the activity making it seem totally believable. May only complaint and the reason for dropping one star off the perfect five is that it is a wee bit short.

Tongue in cheek look at British traditions. Many genuine ones are even more quirky than the ones written about, made up I am sure! Enjoyable and light hearted read. Good book to just browse in spare 5 mins.

Although I found the British traditions described strange, with the application of humour, I immensely enjoyed reading this book. You will enjoy this book if you like to discover more about the British traditions which are not commonly known.
