The volume contains twenty stories from 359 entrants and seven stories by the people who made the final judgment on how those twenty stories should rank. Just to pick on three of them, one from each section, there is Crystal Jeans’ first place winning story which is a bizarre rom-com with good advice on when to carry cans of bug killer. Kim Montgomery’s highly commended story is a warning about what to watch out for if one finds a book of spells in the attic. Katy Wimhurst’s short-listed story made me wonder if knitting causes oblivion or if knitting is the only thing slowing oblivion down.
All of these stories have a tongue-in-cheek weirdness about them which is refreshing.
