The company has people on amazon trying to discredit this review. DO NOT GO FOR THIS PHONE. I would give it minus stars if I could. I am a verified amazon customer and have been for years. I have quite a few reviews. Also some of the 5 star reviews are from people who work at the company. A couple of the reviews give the phone 5 stars because it arrives in a nice box! Really?
I'm editing this review again. I literally can't believe the lengths the company are going to hassle me about it.
I'm still engaged in dialogue with them after 2 months because they still don't know how their own phone works. So, I will give you a quicker list of why not to buy it
First off it has no lock screen. That's right,
2. The volume is woeful. At full volume in my hand I struggled to hear youtubes.
3. You're stuck with a whole load of icons and apps you can't uninstall that you will never use.
4. the camera is utter utter garbage. I studied photography. This is why I was sold the phone. It distorts your face so you look like a disney pixel character. Utterly dreadful. The camera is so bad if I had the money I would challenge them on the legality of calling it a camera. Do you know how easy it is to make a camera? Look it up online, essentially you just need a box with a hole in it and you can create great photos.
I've had this phone for a month now before writing this review. I took some 'selfies' a few weeks ago and then went back to look at them with perspective. They actually made me feel sick. The distortion and saccharine pixalation trying to make me look like a pokemon character is disgusting. They are marketing this as 'beauty'. This is not a camera it's more like a vile photoshop version of a polaroid.
5. The on button is in the wrong place. When you pick the phone up it's almost impossible to do so without hitting it. So PRACTICALLY if you are trying to take photos quickly you end up turning the phone on to the off screen or leaving the app. PRACTICALLY you end up ALWAYS fiddling with the phone. Never had any of these problems with my old S2 or Nokia.
6. The text intelligence is slow and it doesn't understand emojis.
7 The emojis require 6 clicks to go in and out when writing a text.
8 the screen sensitivity is useless.
9 Google and many other invasive companies cannot be uninstalled. I guess most people are used to Google but for some of us we never use it because there are better and more ethical companies online.
10 the phone has a loud vibrate function when you are on a call that cannot be uninstalled. This can damage your hearing. I got in touch with the company and they totally refused to take any responsibility of any damage, to us the customers hearing. Instead they passed blame to the makers of the apps!! So you will be glad to know that you will have no help from the company if your health is damaged.
11 When texting, the app, has another app built into it so lots of words are highlighted with different colours and underlined. (I've added this in on 24.12.16) The company itself still can't figure out for me what this is, or why it's in the texting app!
5.1.17 THE COMPANY STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO HAVE TEXTS without words and numbers being underlined and highlighted.
There must be some customers like me who mainly use the phone for texting - the texting is messy and horrible HOW BAD IS THAT?
12...really I can go on. It's counter intuitive, it's invasive, in all honesty my old nokia was better for practical day to day use. Due to being in a hurry (my phone died at an important time and i had to have one I got deceived into buying this.
I BEG YOU DON'T BUY IT.
I've had to modify this review to make you the reader understand that the comments are people employed by the company. Within hours this review was undermined by numerous sources. Customers buying phones don't sit on amazon waiting to negate a bad review of their phone!
I would give you my personal email if I didn't think I'd get further abuse form them. I can only beg you not to buy it so you don't have that sinking feeling in a couple of days when you realise you're stuck with it like I am. I wish I could time travel and read this review for myself!
I don't even use the camera the only thing I really wanted it for.
Relatively speaking this is the worst piece of tech I have bought for many many years.
For about £200 I couldn't ask for more. The build quality is excellent with a pleasant weight in the hand, and despite the back being made of plastic it has a premium feel.
The UI leaves something to be desired, but after installing a custom launcher (Nova launcher is a must for those who appreciate the feel of stock Android) I was pleased with the little quirks and niceties that MIUI has to offer. While not as feature heavy as the flagship Galaxy S7, you do get a lot for your money here.
The camera is serviceable, and can produce very attractive shots for those who know how to navigate the innards of a phone camera. Low-light seems to be a bit of an issue, producing grainy images, but when the lighting is good this camera can hold up as above average. The front camera is fine, but I'm not one for selfies.
On the bottom we have the speakers which I'd personally prefer to be front facing, but they are loud enough. And I use headphones more often than not, so it is not a huge issue.
3GB of RAM is plenty, and never experienced slowdown on my time with it, but time will tell how this holds up. The Kirin 650 processor, whilst mid-range, is competent enough to allow me to do all the things I need without issue.
The display, whilst not amazing, is good. It's a 1080p IPS display - while most flagships are 1440p at this stage, the reduced resolution helps with battery life and cost - the colours are accurate and images are sharp, so it is good enough. Obviously AMOLED is superior, but when balancing cost/benefit, Id say this is the right choice.
With the mid-range processor, and large battery, you can expect about a day and a half or moderate to heavy usage with no problems - great for people who use their phone almost constantly.
It operates on Android Marshmallow out of the box, but Android 7.0 Nougat is available to download right now. Hopefully we will receive the update to 7.1 and get all the nice battery optimisations that come with that.
If you're in the market for a mid-range phone, and don't want to shell out for the more up to date models (such as the P10 lite, or the Honor 9) then you can't go wrong with the P9 lite.
Build: 5/5 (Though I would have preferred USB-)
Software: 3/5 (without a custom launcher) or 4/5 (with a custom launcher)
