I'm a great believer in choosing products that specifically suit my needs rather than obsessing about individual brands or specs that I will never need/fully utilise/care about whilst paying an extortionate amount of money for the privelege. This phone is perfect for me in every way. In fact, I'm quite bowled over by it. I work from home primarily and also consume a lot of media in my down time. This device is best for both worlds, its size being its crowning glory: ideal for the reading/editing and digital signing of documents (with the very kindly included M Pen!), and also tailor made for heavy media consumption, crisp, bright screen and the best sound I have ever heard from a smartphone with its Dolby Atmos supported stereo speakers.

Watching YouTube reviews before pulling the trigger, the main criticisms were the lack of a 4K screen, its IP rating and the absence of wireless charging. None of these things would deter me from buying this device. Wireless charging, really who cares? Talk about first world problems! IP rating? I'm careful with my tech and this is splash resistant so that's good enough for me. As for the screen, stream some 4K video on YouTube and tell me you notice any difference from a 4K panel. In fact, its absence enables you to squeeze more juice out of that whopping 5000 mAh battery.
So if none of these things are crucial for you, go for it.

It's a pity that this phone is considered niche because of its size. Trust me, you adapt to it very quickly. I find myself picking up my old phone and wondering how I coped with something so dinky for the last two years. The Mate 30 and the Mate 30 Pro have just been announced but no 30x. I hope they don't drop the larger models because I'm definitely sold on devices this size going forward.

So, in summary, if you're looking for a flagship device with a zingy screen, powerful speakers, stunning battery life and mint camera set-up but at a mid-range price, pick up this little beauty.

Mate 20X is a 2-year old phone but can still keep up with current midrange/flagships of 2020. All your basic needs are here (unless big-screen phones are not your thing).

Screen is great. Truly a beast with it's 7.2 inch display!
60 Hertz refresh rate is indeed noticeable if you own a 90 Hertz (or more) phone already (like i am). But i use this phone mainly for multimedia purposes like watching, streaming, listening to music, etc. So you can ignore the refresh rate since you are mostly looking at the screen (or listening), not interacting with it.

Sound is AWESOME! Dual firing stereo speakers (left top and left bottom) one of the loudest out there (imagine it is already a 2-year old phone). Dit I mention it has a HEADPHONE JACK?

Battery life is ridiculous. I was not able to kill this phone in 1 day. Please note, I am always on Performance Mode with mobile data on using 2 simcards.

EMUI has come a long way. I can even use a graphics tablet with it (I recommend XP-PEN STAR G640S). Even though it came with a stylus, drawing/sketching is much better in using the graphics tablet

Huawei makes great phones and the Huawei Mate 20X is an amazing piece of kit. The screen size is great for watching all your Netflix/Amazon Videos on the go or even while chilling at home. The screen is great for me when taking notes at work meetings as it keeps all my notes in one place and the size of the screen and the M-Pen makes it alot better at this task than on my Note 9, although the Note 9 is more convenient in a sense at there is a place to keep the s-pen in the phone unlike the Mate 20 X.

The issue i have with the Mate 20X however is that I feel a bit short changed, when compared to the Mate 20 pro. The Mate 20X is missing IP68 rating, it's also missing the on screen fingerprint scanner which completely baffles me as it makes sense to have the sensor on a big screen and saves the hassle of having to pick up the phone to unlock. No wireless charging and finally although it has 128GB memory it doesn't have microSD but NM Card storage, a new huawei proprietary memory card intended to replace microSD.

Phone itself is fantastic. Massive upgrade on my S6 Edge Plus. OLED screen is BIG, bright and the colours pop. Phone runs smoothly and is a joy to use. Dual speakers are very good in particular for music. Camera is excellent and is very good in low light.

Not a fan of the notch but this wasn't a problem as you can hide it by going to the Diplay settings.

Very happy with the phone but the main downside is the ongoing issue with Android updates, currently the US government has issued a 90 day licence for Android to work with Huawei.

Not a fan of the M pen as it is gimmicky, especially when you compare it with a Samsung Galaxy Note stylus.

The flip cover is very smart but I wish there was a bit more protection around the bezels in terms of thickness.

I really love this phone. I owned the mate 20 pro and the thing I hated was the curved glass display which made using a screen protector very difficult, not to mention the fragility of that kind of display.

The mate 20 x is a flat screen which is great. It's screen is magnificent and I can't tell that it's a 1080p display - it looks stunning. The problem I had with this phone was the sheer size of it.
7.2inch is massive and I personally had a hard time using it. For multimedia usage, this is amazing and the phone handles games perfectly.

My only let down was the battery life, however I'm sure it was my unit and not representative of all devices. I would say that if you are interested in getting the phone, get it. It's brilliant. Just be prepared that it is a massive display and there's no getting around it.
