This is Malky McEwan's best book yet. Not only is it as funny and witty as his other two police books but it is also very clever. The story threads it way through an interview where Malky tells of the incidents that happened as a Police Inspector. Some of it is hilarious, some of it is eye-opening, but I also got the fact that the author wasn't as bad a cop as he lets on. I like his style of writing, he builds up a story, and I ended up either learning something, laughing or both. What comes out is that he wanted to do a good job and was sometimes frustrated by bureaucracy or hindered by bosses or colleagues. There are no holds barred with some of them, but what does come across is that he still enjoyed the job and wholeheartedly supports the police. There is stuff in here that should be required reading for all police officers. If you want a cracking good laugh at what goes on behind the closed doors of a police station, then this is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I thought we had seen the last of Malky McEwan after book 2, but I was delighted to find this third one the other day (an Inspector no less). I find his writing so enjoyable, lighthearted and self deprecating. I wonder if Malky has a fourth in the pipeline - will keep my eyes open.

This is the third in the trilogy and have to say, as an ex cop I enjoyed it thoroughly. It is entertaining, and shows the lighter side of what is an extremely serious profession (most of the time). Well worth the purchase if you fancy a light hearted read.
