A book all children (and many adults) would benefit from reading. Written following a series of workshops with an inner city London school from which all the lovely illustrations in the book are sourced.

This book takes several very complex topics and describes them in ways they are easy to understand. When discussing finances it is very easy to get caught up in mathematics and calculations. The discussion makes the important points without the distractions of complicated equations. It also includes a bit of the history behind monetary systems so explain why people use money to exchange goods and services. All the important terms are highlighted in blue and included in a glossary. The examples are easy for children to understand and the pictures illustrate ideas and concepts effectively and in a friendly way. The book describes the major type of investments and presents the benefits and risks. And rather than describing which ones are more risky it recommends talking to a financial planner and additional resources to learn more. A variety of pension plans are explained. Perhaps the most important point is compound interest and the importance to starting early to save and invest. I think it effectively targets the 3rd-4th grade level of comprehension.

The 'How The World Really Works' books are a fun and informative way of giving children a peek inside the cogs and wheels of the nation - the economy, the legal system, insurance...

The latest in the series, Savings, Investments and Pensions once again turns a complex subject into a fun exploration. Useful for adults too!
