AJP Taylor was always looked down on by his fellow historians. The more he appeared on television, the more he was squinted at.
As a television presenter, he had a remarkable presence and seemed to lecture without notes. Usually he was presented as a 'talking head' and managed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
This means that transcripts or writings of his are 1) not easily available. [any historian worth his salt will say, "don't read Taylor on that, read well me instead...."] and 2) in demand by those who remember his appearances.
This is a book which he introduced on the lines of 'everyone knows how wars begin, but how wars end is not much studied'
Chief sections are 1815 and 1918. Big section on the loss of Napoleons Grand Armee 1812
Excellent book. Exactly what I wanted. This book does what it said on the cover: tells you about how wars end
