I am not an experienced knitter - even so, the careful and thoughtful way this book has been planned means that even I was able to get stuck in. This book is advanced, but accessible. As well as the stunning tea cosies, those projects which seem a bit intimidating are accompanied by `mini projects' to introduce you to the skill involved, eg. the Willow tea cosy (possibly my favourite design, looks like willow-pattern china)is accompanied by the lovely Blue Scarf pattern, which introduces you to double-knitting (where back-to-back fabrics are knitted simultaneously using two threads on one pair of needles... phew) in a simpler way. Likewise, the Isabella cosy is beautifully frilly, so Prior has included a smaller project to practice on - a frilly little knitted coat for a teddy bear. There is also a lovely Blue Beret and Le Grand Sac a Main (an incredible bamboo-handled bag).
As a lot of the patterns involve knitting in the round using the Magic Loop method - something I've never done before - I was glad to start on Egg Daisy, which is an adorable flower that drapes over the egg to keep it warm. And it's a success so far! A great skill to have for knitting socks etc too, so I'm very pleased! Admittedly, I found the instructions for the Magic Loop method in the book a little confusing and had to look it up on YouTube - which Prior herself recommends, so I didn't feel too bad.Read more ›
