Nataly constantly entertains me in her output as one half of Pomplamoose. Here, she has a more haunting tone at times, while still plugging in the occasional stab of wry amusement. Some great tunes and sublime lyrics.

Making the move from quirky YouTube cult favourite to a major label debut can't be the easiest thing in the world, but Nataly Dawn (50% of Pomplamoose) has managed to create an album that is full of character and integrity.

This is not a "commercial pop" album. The recording style is defiantly intimate with her guitar and folky vocals to the fore, but the instrumental adornment when it comes is telling. Especially powerful is the title track, where a string section gently underpins moving, almost confessional family story. Another lovely track is "Why Did You Marry?", which has a wryness and humour which sets out Dawn's stall as a gentle satirist.

Having said all this, though, the starkness of the album does not work when the quality of the songs itself takes a dip, and her voice (always close-mic'd and breathy) can be wearing over the course of a full album.

On the evidence of this album, Nataly Dawn may do an album to set the world on fire, but this isn't yet it. Still, the emergence of a distinctive new songwriter is worth celebrating and this is a very solid foundation to her career.

This album is great, it had me going through a whole range of emotions, it had me dancing and (almost) crying, (real men don't cry). Anyway I thought it was excellent, if you don't believe me you can 'try before you buy' by watching some of the videos of the tracks on youtube. Do not hesitate to buy this album! Awesome.
