Evocative writing, memorable reading, allows a glimpse of life in the remote outer Isles, where weather has a huge impact on daily life, and is often challenging, but when the sun shines, the scenery is magical. In this book, you can read about the trials and triumphs of the couple who open a guesthouse in order to make a living in the Outer Hebrides. Not lacking in humour - or courage. I enjoyed reading this book, and felt the better for it.

I first read this book years ago and thoroughly enjoyed re-reading it. I can recommend it as a good read on a wet winter evening when you want to be lazy but enjoy reading about someone else achieving so much through sheer effort! A lovely book.

A great read, written with dry humor, giving information on what it is like to renovate a guesthouse and entertain guests in the Outer Hebrides. Highly recommended!
