What a life! It's always amazes me how people who have trials in their lives turn into nice loving human beings. What a trial this was! Poor Maggie. This story becomes so real you want to give that louse Amos a taste of his own treatment or worse. An enjoyable read. Thankyou. Highly recommended.

A very readable book, all the characters were interesting and a couple of unexpected twists. Enjoyed reading about the Lake District area in which it was set. Would like it to have had a slightly longer or more in depth ending, but a good read and will purchase more from this author.

The life of a family with a brutal bully of a father, and what his daughters and others, went through with him.
How their lives panned out, the pain and suffering, the sisterly love, the complex of romance and so much more
I was absolutely hooked from beginning to end and can't wait to start the sequel Angels at War
I really, recommend this book by Freda :Lightfoot- yet another great book by her.

I haven't read one by this author before. It was interesting and not unenjoyable..I did carry on reading, but not really my cup of tea, with the dark elements of abusive treatment described in some characters.

Hard to comprehend how the father could be so downright cruel to his own daughters but got his comeuppance in which he deserved...for living in that era I believe this book would be definitely an interesting read for middle age readers.
