Product Description

Product Description

John Cusack stars in this time-travelling comedy feature. Adam (Cusack), Lou (Rob Corddry), Nick (Craig Robinson) and Jacob (Clark Duke) are four friends whose lives are going nowhere. When the men decide to take a holiday at a ski resort that they used to visit when they were younger, they find themselves transported back to 1986 by a magical time-bending Jacuzzi. Adam, Lou, Nick and Jacob are determined to take advantage of this incredible phenomenon and live the lives they've always wanted to live.

From Amazon.co.uk

Hot Tub Time Machine hits the bull's-eye: it's a rude, crude comedy with enough smarts and emotional sweetness to make it completely entertaining. Seeking to bring some youthful optimism back to their failed, miserable lives, three middle-aged guys--Adam (John Cusack), Nick (Craig Robinson), and Lou (Rob Corddry)--go to a mountain resort where they spent some of their wildest days (reluctantly dragging along Adam's nephew, Jacob, played by newcomer Clark Duke). A drunken accident in the titular hot tub sends them swirling back to 1986, where each of them decides to risk changing the future (and possibly erasing Jacob from existence) by doing things just a little differently. A plot summary doesn't capture the movie's rambunctious, daffy spirit as much as… well, the ridiculous title: this is a movie called Hot Tub Time Machine! Any expectation you may have will be met and surpassed. John Cusack delivers another underplayed yet marvellously funny performance, his best since High Fidelity; Clark Duke, from the TV show Greek, proves a promising young comic talent. But the movie really belongs to Robinson and Corddry, who've been floating around the edges of tons of comedies--some have been good, some have been bad, but they've both been consistently funny even in crappy movies. Hot Tub Time Machine gives them centre stage and lets them reveal the comic chaos they can deliver. It helps, but is not necessary, to have lived through the '80s to find Hot Tub Time Machine exquisitely silly. --Bret Fetzer

So the title says it all really.

Four guys who are going nowhere, go back to a party haunt which reminds them of how life was good back in the day. It turns out that the town is almost ghostlike and everything they loved about it has disappeared.

When in Rome, they all decide to make the most of it and get smashed in the hot tub. The quartet wake up to find things and themselves a lot different, 20 years different. Then the movie goes wild, with a bid by the group not to change anything about their past in order not to change the future..

Yes the film is as stupid as the title suggests, it has gaping plot-holes, but it has nostalgia written all over it. The fact that Cusack starred in some of the most cult films of the eighties is one thing, but then for it to feature Glover playing younger and older versions of himself, and Chevy Chase (looking scarily old now) is a feat in its self.

The is sometimes too clever for it's own good, and the sub-plot of some of the group wanting to profit on the situation is a little predictable and stolen from Back to the future 2 could have been left out. But so much effort has been put in to the film for bringing a real eighties feel to it, and kudos to the soundtrack for not featuring predictable eighties hits.

Cusack is as always fantastic, as are the rest of the cast. it has some very funny situations and as with all leftfield comedies with smut, some of the jokes work, some don't, and some of the 'grossness' could have been side-stepped.

But for one weekend, these guys with problems, forget about everything and realise just how free and lucky they were, despite thinking they had problems at that time.

With a name like "Hot Tub Time Machine" I didn't expect a sophisticated movie. I expected a 1980's style sex comedy with gratuitous nudity, potty humor, and a couple of good jokes. That is exactly what you get.

Four people with dead end miserable lives go to a resort that three of them once stayed at back in 1986. They go with the intent to cheer up Rob Corddry, who they believed attempted suicide, when really he just did something stupid. The place is run down and not as they remembered. While drinking in the hot tub they get transported back into time. Chevy Chase makes an appearance as a Hot Tub repair man and hints that they need to do everything the same, or else they might alter the future. Attempting to remember all the bad and good things that happened that night, they go out to reproduce it, finding it equally hard to not to change the past as it is to change it.

The movie includes music from 1986 as well as frequent drug use, drinking, and sex. Chevy Chase's role is almost cameo. A great movie to watch with the guys and have a few beers as long as you are higher than your expectations.

My husband and I are fortunate in being able to have originally got the chance to see hot tub time machine back in early 2010 when it was released in movie theaters (we were still living in Orlando, florida during this time and saw hot tub time machine in a movie theater that was just a couple of miles from the university of central florida). Anyhow, imagine my delight when I saw this hot tub time machine dvd featured at my job as a holiday promo and I paid less than 3 dollars for this. It was fun getting the chance to watch this movie again of men who are given another chance to change their lives when they unintentionally are taken back to the time when they were teenagers. Obviously, the front of the dvd cover features john cusack, rob cordory, craig robinson, clark duke, and chevy chase. The dvd gives you a choice of the unrated and theatrical version. My husband and I enjoyed watching this move so much that we both agreed that we are definitely going to eventually check out hot tub time machine 2 ( we're just currently undecided whether we are going to see it in the movies or once it is on dvd). The plot to hot tub time machine is fun to watch because the men are given the chance to go back in time to when they vacationed at a popular ski resort together. There is a giant stuffed teddy bear image on the actual dvd and the following trailers' modern family, our family wedding, and date night.

If you want to wind the clock back to one of Cusack's teen comedies then this is for you; despite an older ensemble, the themes are no less juvenile. There are some gross out moments reminiscent of the Hangover and it has a great 80's theme. The crushing weight of adulthood brings three guys back to the ski resort they remember for the riotus times of their youth. The car ride is full of memory fuelled expectation but when they arrive the place is has turned into a dump. With little else to do they try the outdoor hot tub which winds back the clock to 1986 giving them the chance to set straight the course of their lives. It wasn't the laugh riot I hoped for, but it was loads of fun and flew past the hour and a half mark without me batting an eyelid. It's completely stupid of course but the guys are an engaging lot and I enjoyed watching each of them come to terms with their past demons. The feelgood ending didn't hurt either.
