Agent Jake Dawson is stunned: A blind female passenger aboard the vessel! How is he going to protect her from the two other thugs he is sailing with? And who is going to protect his undercover mission? There's only one quick solution to the problem: he claims the young woman for himself and demands from her to cooperate. But how does Allie react to this? And what happens to the undercover operation?
I was looking for a nice read to fill a lazy afternoon and thought that a steamy romantic suspense would do just fine. Why not try this one by Kat Martin, since I've already read and enjoyed some of her books. However, I was disappointed.
- Jake's jokes about blondes didn't loosen up the plot but actually trivialized it and neither could the fact that Allie didn't comply with this stereotype smooth my already bad impression of the main male character (BTW - I'm a brunette!).
- Allie, on the other hand, wasn't much more likeable and the content of some of her verbal attacks made me more than once shake my head.
- The storyline was more than flat and completely predictable.
- There were numerous steamy romantic scenes but they were badly integrated into the plot, hence didn't enhance the storyline accordingly.
- The ending was a complete "overkill": SPOILER!!
Not only was there a "happily ever after" but the hero turned out to be a rich heir, he quits his career and becomes a successful entrepreneur, he found his biological son, hero and heroine adopted another child and henceforward they both share a common career path.
Well, what can I say?! I wanted to relax with a book and not get upset about a book.
But really, getting to the ending was just as fun, thrilling, exciting and rocky as ever. Mary Alice, "Allie", is probably one of the most strong minded and stubborn female leads Kat has conjured thus far; yet, even at 28 years old she is as innocent as she is intelligent. Maybe that's why she can't figure out her life's interests. Jake, on the other hand is just as stubborn and strong minded, but has known his path in
life since he was old enough to think for himself. That's the most you'll get from me ... you're gonna have to read to get the thrill and intrigue of the story.
