Hostile Workplace starts off quite lighthearted, it's Sam and Judy but it's not what it seems you soon realise he's with Ginny, Lydia isn't around at this point.
One things for sure Sam isn't the same Sam as he used to be, you can only wonder what has happened and what is going on in his world.
The mention of Sam's sister Rebecca from Love on The Horizon made me smile just thinking about her and Marco's story bought back great memories and she along with Cooper and Liam are always quick to give advice.
This story takes a turn for the better when Elizabeth reveals some life changing news that Sam doesn't even know about and it's from this point that we start to get little bits of information but that's all it is little bits... just enough to keep you dangling.
There's a build up to Lydia showing up what with possible sightings of her Sam is already on high alert and again this story takes another turn, it becomes absolutely riveting.
With Ginny and now Judy Sam has got so much drama going on, add Lydia into the mix and it becomes tenfold, honestly with all the misunderstandings, deceit and worst of all lies this story becomes more and more gripping.
I always love the name dropping from other stories... in this case it was Quint Lawson from The Shotstop and what a brilliant story that was.!
As the storyline continues so does Sam and Lydia's issues and you wonder how it's all going to turn out... will they won't they and A.M. Madden keeps you guessing until the end at one point thinking the worst.
I won't say how it ended because you will have to read it and find out your self... it's another fantastic story in this series.!
Hostile Workplace can be read as a complete standalone but for those of you who have read Love on the Horizon, you will remember Sam as the protective brother of Rebecca. Sam has had is heartbroken at a young age and never fully healed, he works hard to be the best he can be at his job coming over as a complete an utter ass to his staff, but only because he doesnt show the real Sam. His personal life is yet to take another direction, engaged to a woman who has been there for him, but he's never truly been in love with her and secrets are unveiled giving him the chance to move on.
Well he may be free of the girl he never truly loved but what happens when the past comes back well that's where you'll have to go get your copy and find out. Its a book full of angst, love, heartbreak, family, laughs and not forgetting the smoking hot sex, I promise you wont be disappointed.
AM Madden is one of my favourite authors at the moment and Hostile Workplace just highlights why I love her work. Her stories always keep me entertained and make me enjoy her world. Her characters are well developed and are very life-like which makes the story even better than I first thought. I loved how you meet Rebecca and Marco plus the rest of the family. I loved the secondary characters, especially Liam who I really want to learn more about!
Sam is a man who is loyal to a fault but doesn't know whether he is strong enough to move on. I felt so sorry for his history, but then on the other hand, his inability to move on from the past kinda annoyed me. I loved his alpha behaviour and his dominant ways, which made me smile. I also loved his complete vulnerability, especially when he was faced with something he'd never done. He had his work attitude, which was professional and driven towards success, but then he had his normal attitude, which was fun, domineering and sexy. He loves to enjoy himself, although he hasn't seemed to enjoy himself very much. His behaviour towards his relationship was heartbreaking, but I'm glad that he is understanding what he wants.
Judy is a lady who knows who she wants and what she wants. Her professional attitude is very feisty, which makes her encounters with Sam in the office very tense, but she is also a shy, vulnerable lady who wants the best for herself. Again, her past made my heart cry for her, but I was hoping she got the best that she deserved. I loved her encounters with Sam once he'd broken up with his fiancee, as they were hot and sexy, but also fun and thrilling.
But Lydia... Oh Lydia. Mistakes and circumstances are the reason that they separated, but what happens when a job opportunity brings them together? You get fireworks and the fine line between love and hate. Their interactions are tense, but with AM Madden, you always get the fireworks! How could you not with two former sweethearts?
This book is a must read and isn't necessary to read after Love on the Horizon, but it'll help with the secondary characters in Rebecca and Marco if you do. 5 stars is not good enough for this book, as it's worth many, many more!
