From the Back Cover
Before you throw this awful audio to the ground and run as far away from it as possible, ou should probably know why. This audio is the only one which describes every last detail of the baudelaire children’s miserable stay at Heimlich Hospital, which makes it ont of the most dreadful audios in the world.
There are many pleasant things to listen to, but this audio contains not one of them. Within it are such burdensome details as a suspiecious shop-keeper, unnecessary surgery, an intercom system, anesthesia, heart-shaped balloons, and some very startling news about a fire. Clearly you do not want to hear about such things.
I have sworn to research this story, and to record it as best I can, so I should know that this audio is something best left on the ground, where you undoubtedly found it.--This text refers to the Audio Cassette edition.

There are in fact 13. Well worth it.
But of course Count Olaf arrives in disguise and the children have to use all their wits to evade capture.
Every time I pick up the next in the series, I hope this won't be the book where it feels a bit same-y and repetitive, but not a hint of it - I'm happy to say I loved it. The story was great, and gave some clues as to the bigger picture - the children discover a little more about the fire at the Baudelaire mansion. Also Lemony Snicket describes his woes, such as: "As I crouch here behind the altar of the Cathedral of the Alleged Virgin...I can temporarily forget six or seven of my troubles" and "the word 'midnight' reminds me that I must keep writing this chapter very quickly, or else I will probably drown".
This ends on more of a cliff-hanger than the previous books, and once again I'm excited to get onto the next one.
Klaus and Sunny try to save somebody named Laura V. Bleediotie from a suspicious person called Mattathias. It turns out that the Baudelaires have encountered him before! I found this book very enjoyable and amazing, so if you like to read a book with an (very)unhappy end this is what you are looking for.
Even my father who hasn't read any other books of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" liked this! "The Hostile Hospital" is great!
