Format: Paperback
A fascinating, elegantly written account of Ann Somerhausen's tumultuous year in Cuba in the early 1970s, as the American wife to the Belgian ambassador. She takes us by the hand and leads us to Havana through her atmospheric writing, and gives us an honest look into the life of a diplomatic wife in a Communist dictatorship. If all memoir was like this, I would read a lot more of it!

The true story of a diplomatic posting to Cuba in the '70's - a fascinating and very personal picture of the country ends dramatically.

HASH(0x884c6408) out of 5 stars Well written but poorly edited 13 Oct. 2011
By JW - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Ann Somerhausen's account of her family's difficult expat experience in Havana in the 1970s is graciously written, with fine attention to the little details that make a book of this kind come to life. Clearly a self-published venture, the book is flawed by typos, dropped words and other irritating boo-boos that could so easily have been fixed with the stroke of an editor's red pencil. What a shame!
