The best way to learn about horses
"Horses for Dummies" was a labor of love. I've been riding horses since I was a child, and have long wanted to help newcomers learn what they need to know to get the most out of their relationships with these incredible creatures.
"Horses for Dummies" aims to do that and more. The book gives you all the basics you need to get started in riding and being around horses--and will help you decide if and when horse ownership is right for you.
The horse world can be a bit daunting to newcomers. There is so much to know! But with "Horses for Dummies" as your guide, you'll find that learning about horses is not only easier than you think, but lots of fun too! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Parts of the bridal different names - even a slice of hay is called something different (flake). Livery Yards are Boarding Stables. There are many more.....
I would go so far as to say that about 1/3 can be skipped as is USA specific, cost estimates in USD - properties ZONED for horses (there is quite a lot on this topic), federal laws on things?
The Breed Information is very much orientated around top USA breeds or ones which are available in the USA. All very interesting but not really what a UK student needs to be studying as a start.
It does cover English as well as weston riding.
To sum up: Quite a light read - Amusing - but probably not best suited to a beginner in the UK
As a general comment: I find it quite disappointing looking for equestrian books that the book descriptions do not always indicate if it it is UK English or USA English? I think it should say in the synopsis & not jut English.
Nearly forgot the positive -it is quite funny!! & gets valid points across with humour. Just such a shame it couldn't have been edited for the UK.
Horses are complicated -- to understand, to buy or lease, to care for, to equip, to train and to handle. Audrey's book does a wonderful job explaining it all, and her love of these marvelous animals comes through on every page.
If you dream of horses, this is a book you must have!
