I've recently read Slammed (which was Colleen Hoover's first book) and I did enjoy that. But everyone was saying it was amazing and I thought it was good, but not amazing. So my expectations for HOPELESS weren't huge. But I would definitely say this is soooooo much better than SLAMMED and Point of Retreat. You will love Holder a lot more than you love Will.
I read this in about 48 hours. It's quite a long book but it was so good, I didn't want it to end. I couldn't stop thinking about it when I wasn't reading it.
Also I think Colleen was really clever writing this. I loved all the twists. I loved how Colleen started the book with it being "two months earlier". I kept going back to it while reading the book. LOVED IT!!
I am really excited to read Losing Hope which comes out later this year. It's from Holder's point of view but from what I've heard, it isn't the same story and it's based before this book.
I would 100% recommend this to everyone who loves SLAMMED, Beautiful Disaster,Easy and books like that. AMAZING!!!
This is one of those rare times that I wish I could give a book more than 5 stars!!! I was intrigued to read this book after it was mentioned in the acknowledgements of Nicola Hudson's book Heart & I also received a recommendation to it as well.
I loved the way Colleen Hoover expressed such emotion & feeling in her writing. I have not read such powerful emotions since the Twilight series.
This combined with all the twists & turns made it a wow book. I struggled to put it down but at the same time didn't want it to end.
My next read is another Colleen Hoover book, after this one being the first if hers I'd ever read.
There are so many words I could use to describe how freaking amazingly perfect Holder is. He is swoonworthy and sexy and protective and strong and loyal and romantic and caring and hot-headed and argumentative and witty and .... you get the point, right?
Sky is a great MC with a strong voice and an even stronger will.
Character development was astounding in this book and both mains were really complex. The writing is phenomenal as I've come to expect from CH.
The plot was quite predictable but as Colleen didn't go to huge lengths to disguise her clues I'm guessing she wants the reader to figure it out before Sky does.
This book had me in tears - of laughter and sorrow. Some of the dialogue between Holder and Sky was hysterically funny and I was in the major bad books with my hubby because I woke him up several times shaking with laughter.
Colleen handles some pretty heavy subject matter in this book and I thought it was very well written. Sympathetic but raw, not glossed over. It was so difficult to read at times but I genuinely felt their pain and a deep emotional connection to them and the story.
Really, story telling doesn't get much better than this.
Some fav quotes:
"I nod and hope he backs the hell away from me, because I'm about to have an asthma attack and I don't even have asthma."
"...in the time it took him to speak those five words, my heart was shredded and minced, then placed back inside my chest with the expectation that it should somehow know how to beat again."
"I'm bored, " he says. "So go home." " I don't want to. What do you do when you're bored? You don't have internet or TV. Do you just sit around all day and think about how hot I am?"
Hopeless is the story of a teenager called Sky, she lives with her mum and has lived a somewhat sheltered life. No school, no TV and no internet access but she has experienced a lot of the town's teenage boys. One problem though.... she's unable to feel. That is until she catches the eye of Holder in a supermarket who recognises her from the moment their eyes meet. Sparks fly between them and together they unfold Sky's past and why she is unable to feel and try to overcome her struggles whilst falling in love.
I really did enjoy this book, Ugly Love still remains my favourite so far but Hopeless is right up there for me!
Time to move on to her next book <3
