Let me start with the main characters; Ava and Joel. Ava is just a gem of a character. She is funny, doesn't take herself too seriously, gorgeous (according to her friends), the same insecurities as most women and just going through life trying to find true love. Whilst reading the book, I found myself thinking that Ava doesn't realise how amazing and gorgeous she really is. She is always wondering why would a guy like Joel like her, when he could have the pick of the bunch. Joel's character is a fantastic 'book boyfriend'; hot, lots of charisma, understanding, patient and kind.
"But I saved your spot." He'd saved me a seat, he'd saved me a seat!. I really shouldn't have been so excited.
The story is a beautiful and realistic love story. The characters are convincing - you could actually imagine someone re-telling this magical story of lost love in real life. The author has created the story using details from the past and present. It is entwined together so naturally that it draws you in, making you feel what the character is feeling.
The love scenes in the book are HOT and sensual. They range from intimate, leaving the reader to use their imagination - "Then I felt his tongue on me. Softly, almost not touching me, just a fraction heavier than air." To RED HOT - 'He was a man on a mission. A mission to f**k me senseless.'
A beautiful love story by Louise Bay.
I adored this story! On second reading, I felt more invested in it, as I knew that I'd be re-reading some favourite scenes.
Joel and Ava are wonderful together - even if it's in secret. I enjoyed the unfolding of their love story switching between the past and the present (all told from Ava's POV). The author sets a great pace to the story - keeping us holding on for a few more minutes in the present, while she relates something from their past.
Joel is gorgeous, patient and intense. Ava is insecure but smart and likeable. I enjoyed their flirty banter and the development of their relationship from friends to lovers. I loved their passion for one another - Louise Bay writes great love scenes!
There were times I wanted to shake Ava - I wanted her to listen to her heart. I wanted her to cast off her doubts and general opinion, and listen to what Joel was telling her with his words and his actions.
"In my town...in my bed...in my heart"...."You know this is it for me. YOU'RE it for me." I mean, come on, Ava!!! His desire for her was so obvious.
I really wanted Joel to have fought for her harder. Ava's speech at the end was really heartfelt and brought tears to my eyes. I loved their HEA.
This book gave me butterflies in my stomach - always a good sign of a fab book! Thoroughly recommend!!
I was given an advance copy of Hopeful in return of an honest review.
Wow!!!! Louise you have taken my breath away with this story. Absolutely amazing!
Ava and Joal are the main characters of the story, both at university trying to do well. Ava is the more quiet and shy, Joal is the heartthrob "player".
Now everyone would love a piece of Joal he's hot, smart and funny. Ava and Joal become friends whilst studying everyday together in the library.
After a while of fighting attraction to one and another they fall into a "relationship" of sorts. Just them too know and they don't tell their circle of friends.
However every story has a price to pay and it's a heavy price for Ava to make. She has a decision to make, one that can change everything.
You are going to have to read Hopeful to find out. I am not telling you!
All I will say this book is hot! Descriptive ;-) and will be getting you reaching for your man!
The story is written with such emotion from humour, love and lost. Their are 2 characters I will say look out for and that's Adam and Jules. They will have you laughing out loud I promise you!
Congratulations on a beautiful book and happy release day xxxx
