Having purchased the cd version a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed it I thought I would treat myself to a vinyl copy as well.
My oh my am I glad I did.
The production on this record seems perfectly suited to this format. I am no audiophile nor a writer of reviews but it is that good I felt compelled to write.
The harmonies between Miss Harvey and Mr Parish sound near perfect, especially on The ministry of defence and Chain of keys.
I have listened to PJ Harvey a lot over the years and hand on heart I don't think she has made a bad record. In my opinion this is up there with the best of an incredibly high standard of music.
Thank you for reading and happy listening.

Let England Shake's my favourite PJ album. She kindly signed something for me last year and I told her the instrumentation reminded me of Blood On The Tracks at times. This one is remarkably similar, not as immediately striking though. However, two songs stand out after a few listens - The Wheel and River Anacostia, which I think might be the most beautiful song she's written. I have a feeling the album's going to grow a lot.

Having followed PJ Harvey since she burst forth into our eardrums, I found her new album a subtle addition to her repertoire. The anger has evolved into a colder cut of the knife: a knife dipped in a poison that takes longer before it bites. Undoubtedly a genius and fine musician, her new songs require long walks and introspection. Unfortunately those who need to listen, to unpick those threads of meaning that that lyrics suggest, will never do so. That means her next album will me all the more acidic and I for one, welcome that. Enjoy. Embrace. Attack.

Absolutely outstanding album. This is even better than Let England Shake and that was worthy of 6 stars out of 5.
Polly and her collaborators(Flood, Parish et al) have consistently produced brilliant music over the years. She sounds better & better every lp.
Valid comment by James, especially considering perhaps Uh-Huh Her was not one of her best but I would say that her vocal performance does get better every time. The range she has is amazing.

Her best album ? For me the most listenable. She found her metier with Shake England Shake, and as with that album this is based around a cause or causes. However, in contrast, this is easy to listen to, catchy dare one say; light; with poppy melodies. Superb tunes.
First album of hers that I find myself repeatedly drawn to listen to. Maybe her band now provides a sufficient counter-weight musically.

Haven't fully decided yet. I like the lyrics and what they mean, some have really inspired and sparked my interest and I've enjoyed that aspect but the actual music doesn't excite me so much. Having said that i found white chalk took a while for me to 'get it' but now I really love that album so maybe the Hope Six will grow on me. It's different anyway. I'm not sure about the sound of the backing choir, again interesting but yet to excite me. Maybe I should review when I've made up my mind. Or maybe I should leave it to the articulate sods who do it better. Either way I still adore our Polly and always will.
