I can't explain how much I enjoyed this book, it was just that good. With top notch writers such as LH Cosway and Penny Reid, the standards are set high already and this collaboration succeeded way beyond my expectations.

Annie is a hermit, she is introverted and shy. She mainly works from home and her only real friends are virtual. She is extremely intelligent and is at the top of the game in her job cleaning up the dirty public images of celebrities. In her spare time she is an anonymous celebrity blogger. She has abandonment issues but she accepts this as her lot and is happy and content with her life and is not one to moan or whine about her loneliness.

Ronan is an Irish charmer, who is spending some time in New York after a very public fracas between him and one of his Rugby League teammates. Annie is tasked with helping him shed his bad boy persona but is mortified when she realises he is someone she has recently blogged about (and taken the piss out of) and to complicate things further, she finds herself becoming his 'fake girlfriend'

Not only is Annie extremely attracted to him but she has an urge to make him happy, she sees sadness in him that she just wants to take away. Unfortunately for Ronan, she is reluctant to start something up with him due to her low self esteem.

"I wanted to kiss away his hurts...or at least make his hurts some cookies."

Ronan on the other hand recognises straight away that Annie is pretty much his dream woman and is determined to break down her barriers and prove to her that he is serious about his intentions towards her.

"The protector inside me was frowning, while the predator soaked up her discomfort with glee.

I started to read this when it was first released but for some reason I couldn't get into it and I set it aside. I re-started it and this time, I found it easier to get into but that might be because I'm now used to Penny Reid's writing which I was not familiar with the first time I started this book. However, I then realised that it was Penny's writing in this story which I preferred. She writes the heroine, Annie. I have long been a fan of L H Cosway and have loved the heroes she writes, but in this book, I can't say I thought much of the hero Ronan (plus he didn't sound Irish at all) and at times I felt his thought process was a bit feminine which is surprising considering L H Cosway can definitely write a good male POV.

It's quite a witty story and a sweet romance but I never really felt their connection. There was something missing for me and perhaps it's because the book is a collaboration? I do like both authors and I will read their individual book releases but I'm not sure I will read their next collaboration which is another book in this series.

I liked this book - I like the dual perspective and easy writing style.. Both characters are easy to connect with. Not sure about the restraints. When I saw which way the plot was going I had an internal groan of really???, but it did fit in with the blackmail plot and nothing major. I recommend this as a flight\holiday read

If you aren't familiar with the writings of L H Cosway and Penny Reid, then please, make a point of treating yourself. Then you will have an inkling as to why this book has been so eagerly awaited by fans of both authors. They both write beautiful, amazing, interesting stories, with characters you will fall in love with repeatedly (yes, you will want to re-read their books, and often)! The Hooker and the Hermit is, at first glance, a beautifully executed romantic comedy. The seamless switching between the POV of Ronan and Annie is ingenious. To have two authors with different writing styles produce a story which flows without a hiccup, is testament to their talent - although anyone who has enjoyed their books will agree that both authors write romantic novels which are deserving of their own genre, and it's no surprise then that they gelled together flawlessly with this book. Their characters are often flawed, damaged, complex, but smart and strong. This unique style and depth is brought to The Hooker and the Hermit. It had me laughing out loud - a lot! It was also a delight to see how Annie and Ronan fit so well together, yet their issues and emotional baggage kept getting in the way. The chemistry between them has sparks flying immediately, although you might want to bang their heads together occasionally! Ronan is just droolworthy. Funny, quick-tempered, self-aware, loyal, full of integrity - and very hot! Is he the perfect match for Annie, with all her issues, her fear of living in the real world, yet brave enough and intelligent enough to have a successful career, whilst remaining comfortably anonymous behind her clever use of social media? Books by these two authors always leave me feeling reassured.Read more ›
