Clare Short has produced a very informative and a very readable account of her time as a Cabinet Minister leading up to the decsion to go to war in Iraq and its aftermath.
The book is semi auto biograpical as the first couple of Chapters covered her earlier poltical career and private life dealing with how (briefly) she managed to contact the son that she had given up for adoption and the death of her husband the former MP Alex Lyon.
She then goes on to cover her time as the International Development Secretary, and her battles in the Cabinet and the mandarians in getting more information that she felt the Cabinet were not getting to make proper decsions in the lead up to war, with accounts of her private conservations and observations of Tony Blair, and justifies why she did not resign from the Cabinet at the same time as Robin Cook, beliving she had certain assurances from the Prime Minister.
A good read and interesting in this the tenth year of the Iraq War anniversary.
