My favorite chapter is chapter 8 "Technology and Field Trips". This chapter is full of things that I can use here at home or in the car on the way to the store, which is just so valuable to me! I appreciate the details given on planning these sorts of adventures and how to find them in the first place. I enjoyed reading the book and now that I'm done with it, this book will stay close. The ideas in it will be a go to resource for many years. Even if we went back to public school, this book would be a useful tool to help me supplement the traditional curriculum. In short, this book can help me plan and have ideas about schooling on a professional level, because I'm drawing from the perspective of someone who has been doing it for almost 20 years. So glad to have found it.
I started reading and right away was smiling and even giggling at the “real”-ness of her stories and experiences. This book is a great tool to convince myself (and others who question it) that the field trips I chose to take my homeschooled children on are benefitting them more than I realized! She even has the research to prove her points!
She also has great (specific) ideas for seeing the world around us in the perspective of the “adventure” that it is (or can be, if we take the time to explore it).
This easy and fun book to read makes me want to get out there and learn through some great field trips!
