Editing, editing, editing. That is the golden rule and this book needs an update. If you are OCD about formatting, skip this book. It will drive you crazy.
There needs to be serving per recipe, and better formatting. Formatting on the kindle doesn't always line up correctly.
There are not enough pictures. Cookbooks should have more pictures to help the cook understand a basic idea of what the completed recipe should look like.
The author switches between the word biscuit and cookie, sometimes in the same recipe. This is confusing and distracting if you allow it to bug you.
All in all, the recipes seem to be good ones, and there are recipes I will be trying despite the distractions from a lack of entirely clear directions. If you are a beginning cook, you might have trouble following directions. If you are a seasoned cook who uses cookbooks as jumping off points and can handle the need for editing, get this book.
4.0 out of 5 starsSome fun recipes, but minues 1 star for the pie recipes all using store bought ice cream...
9 November 2014 - Published on Amazon.com
There are some great recipes but I find the pie recipes disappointing because they all call for ready made ice cream. It may just be me, but I don't really consider mixing up ready made ice cream w/some misc ingredients & putting it in a pie crust making a pie. I do think they sound yummy, but again, not homemade in the sense that I usually consider something homemade. Maybe if there were simple instructions how to make your own ice cream & a note that says or you can use store bought to save your sanity, time, etc. (or something like that) would make it more homemade like?!
I think many of the other recipes are fantastic, easy to do, use simple ingredients, etc. I did notice at least 2 typos, one being on the cover that I believe should read "Granitas" instead of "Granita". That said, the grammar & punctuation are great, which can be rare these days, unfortunately.
The "pop" recipes & granita recipes look wonderful... can't wait to try them. For whatever reason the recipes making the pops using store bought ice cream still seems homemade to me (maybe because that is the type of ice cream I would associate making the pops with that would be easier to work with versus creamy homemade ice cream that tends to be more like a soft serve that melts fast & wouldn't work very well for the pops or at least not as well as store bought), but for whatever reason I feel it is kind of like cheating for the pie recipes?!
Overall, I think it has some great, easy to follow recipes & other reviewers obviously don't mind the store bought ice cream pie recipes as I do. I guess to me making a pie means making the filling from scratch too.
5.0 out of 5 starsGood selelction of frozen sweet treats
11 February 2014 - Published on Amazon.com
Author Pamela Kazmierczak has compiled a collection of frozen sweet treats you can enjoy almost any time of the year, but I would most surely appreciate her recipes during the heat of summer. I can see myself sipping on a Lemon lime Ice Cream Float or Root Beer Ice Cream Float when the thermometer registers 100+ degrees. Some of the other recipes you will find in her cookbook include:
While there are no surprising recipes here, the book provides some interesting treats that can be made quick and easy. It's a great book for an inexperienced cook or for those occasions when you need something fast and have limited ingredients on hand. It's also a great book for getting the kids involved as most recipes require no extended cooking times or knives. All the recipes are very basic.
The most delicious mouth watering cool desserts you caj put a fork to. Fifty great frozen desserts. Now I may not like them all but I love most of them. The key lime pie is fantastic and I love w great peanut butter pie. Thank you and enjoy your cool desserts and enjoy your day.
