I eargerly awaited this somewhat dated looking massager, expecting some more than a couple of rolling balls for each foot. I thought with the pedigree of HoMedics there might be some cushioned side rollers, a more comfortable base lining or at least some control over the machine itself. None of the above are present i am afraid. It can be quite painful unless you take weight off your feet, and I mean more than sitting down!

There are two rotating balls under each side and they dont even move up and down the foot. I have a wooden set of rollers set in a small box step thing which you slide your feet over yourself and it is much more effective, similar to this Wooden Roller Relief Stress Foot Massager and just look at the price difference!

Sorry but save your money on this one.

This device tries to do very similar things to your feet as its vaguely similar sibling, the HoMedics CBS-1000 Max Shiatsu Massaging Chair does to your back. I just don't think that it works in this case, even though I like the chair very much. The two products seem to adopt very similar technology and engineering, but while the chair's Shiatsu massaging functions are perfectly suited to the spinal region, I am far from convinced that the same application works as well for the feet. At first it seems rather ticklish (other family members found it to be the same), but after a few minutes less so. The plain fact is that it doesn't pleasure the feet anywhere near as - well, pleasurably - as another Homedics device, the RFX-1H Tapping Foot Massager which we've had for a year or two and which gets used almost every single day. By contrast the Shiatsu Foot Massager has hardly been used at all, probably because it feels more of a curiosity rather than a machine that really makes your feet feel better. If anything I get the impression that Homedics have gone a bit too far here, trying to answer a question that nobody was asking. Others might feel differently, but of the five Homedics products we've had, this one has been used the least and is consequently the most disappointing.

Three stars for being 'OK', then. It wouldn't be fair to say that I don't like it - I just find it rather pointless.

I got this because it seemed novel compared to another foot massager I had bought last year and returned it because it had no beneficial effect. This ones is described as if your feet would be nicely cocooned inside the woolly surround of the massager unit. In actual fact unless you have very fat ankles and chunky feet, there is very little benefit of the cocoon. It's far too lose around the average sized feet and ankles to feel particularly cozy.

The massaging action is OK. Doesn't do much for me. I think you need hyper sensitive soles of feet to feel any benefit. The instructions say better with socks, but I don't feel much at all with socks. I found also had to press and move my feet over the rollers to get some effect.

I do like the heat function, it will be handy in winter I guess.

I have a number of other products from Homedics and all of them have been very good which may be why I feel so let down with this one. Despite being pretty robust and generally well made it simply doesn't work well as a foot massager; there's a very limited massage action which doesn't cover the entire sole of the foot and to be honest I found that after a minute or two of use it became too painful to carry on. It was also quite noisy to use and had just three options for use = off/on/on+heat. Sorry Homedics but this massager was very disappointing - it's just as well that I know you can produce good equipment or my experience with this particular product may have been enough to put me off your firm for life.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This product is produced by massage specialists HoMedics. Don't get the wrong idea though- for despite their name, they are not an agency that sends out women in skimpy doctor/nurse costumes, to perform massage services (with "happy endings") upon wealthy businessmen.

Anyway, that's the bad joke that I mentioned in the title out of the way. Unfortunately, the product's a bit of a joke too, though. Firstly, I'm not quite sure how a high pitched squeal that is akin to that of a small dying animal is supposed to help out with your 'chi'. It makes a hell of a racket! When you press your feet against the device, the pitch does fall slightly with increased pressure (unlike when you press your feet against a small animal) but it's still about as conducive to an atmosphere of relaxation as putting on the Eraserhead Soundtrack at a cocktail party and then suddenly turning all the lights out.

Nextly, "Shiatsu"? Are you kidding me? The term correctly refers to finger pressure that is supposed to be strategically directed to pressure points on the feet. Once you stick your feet inside the big muff, you'll quickly discover that there are no fingers operating inside there. As in the case of a humanoid hermaphrodite robot, underneath the muff can be found electronically automated balls. These oscillate on a preset program- without any ability to search out the most important areas. Having once received a proper foot massage from an ex-girlfriend, I can attest that this doesn't come remotely close to the real thing. While my feet felt a little better afterwards than before I started, it was far from significant enough to justify the experience. The idea that this constitutes Shiatsu foot massage holds as much credibility as a teenager who thinks he can rightfully claim to have lost his virginity- based upon ownership of a blow up doll.
