Katherine Jenkins, the nation’s sweetheart, returns to her classical roots celebrating the music that launched her international career. Ten years ago, Katherine was introduced to the world as the school teacher from Neath whose voice had landed her a deal with the world's biggest recording company. By Peter Durward Harris #1 HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWER on 17 Nov. 2014
Format: Audio CD
This album has several anthemic songs including Land of my fathers, Barcelona and World in Union, which reflect the mood of the album as a whole. All of the songs have a positive feel to them, although some of the songs are quite mellow.

Frank Sinatra and Julie Andrews are among the other artists who have recorded We'll gather lilacs in the Spring, a song by Welsh composer Ivor Novello, but it's great to hear this song again. Other great songs include Dreaming of the days, We are the champions and Ode to joy, but this is a great album from start to finish. The album ends with Slent night, which Katherine recorded a few years ago.

If you have enjoyed her earlier music, I expect you will enjoy this too.

INTRODUCTION:

Katherine Jenkins (born 29 June 1980) is a Welsh mezzo-soprano. She is a classical-popular crossover singer, who performs across a spectrum of operatic arias, popular songs, musical theatre and hymns. So far, she has released 10 albums, starting with Premiere in 2004 to the current Home Sweet Home, released in November 2014.

CONTENT:

This CD, released by Decca Records from UK, contains 14 songs. I have compiled a detailed track listing (including label, number, year & chart position for albums) which is as follows:

HOME SWET HOME (Decca 3773443)(UK 10/2014; UK CLASSICAL 1/2014):
01 Land of My Fathers
02 Beethoven’s Ode To Joy (featuring David Garrett)
03 Sanctus (Elgar’s Nimrod)
04 Bacelona (featuring Alfie Boe)
05 Dreaming of the Days (Einaudi”s Giorni)
06 World in Union
07 Secreti (One Republic’s Secrets)
08 Remember
09 We’ll Gather Lilacs
10 How Great Thou Art
11 Home Sweet Home
12 Anthem (From Chess)
13 We Are The Champions
BONUS TRACK:
14 Silent Night

POSITIVE POINTS:

1 This is Katherine’s 10th album. She is in top form. Her voice is as angelic as ever, hitting all the high notes. The backing orchestra is well defined. The chorus also gave adequate backing. Her duet with Alfie Boe in Barcelona was simply heavenly. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
2 The sound is very well remastered: pristine and clean. Vocal is sharp and focus while there is clear differentiation of different instruments.
3 There is a 14-page booklet, containing all the lyrics, plus beautiful pictures of Kathleen Jenkins.

NEGATIVE POINTS:

None.

Having bought all of her previous albums I had to have this latest one. It by far surpasses the previous one'This is Christmas'.
Katherine has gone back to the style of her earlier albums with much more classical and fewer modern songs.
One disappointment is that the album has two tracks fewer than the mp3 version which comes free with the album. I downloaded the mp3 version before the CD arrived in the post and when playing it in the car realised that the last two tracks (two of the best in my opinion) were missing. How strange!
But still buy it you won't be disappointed overall.

A wonderful cd with stirring and beautiful music which can be depended upon from such a great singer. But..there are five typing errors in the cd booklet which I'm sure could have been easily seen before publication! A "must have" cd for lovers of this musical genre.

A. beautiful CD, a real experience to listen to, and I think one of those albums that lets you discover more every time you listen to it. I was interested to hear Katherine singing with Alfie Boe (Barcelona), they should do more together. It was also nice to hear Katherine singing in German - Ode to Joy, which is one of my favourite songs. A brilliant album, definitely worth buying if you like classical/croossover music.
