An escaped mental patient, fuelled up on PCP, gets to a remote ranch, whilst there he stalks and kills the guest there one by one.

Clichéd and completely ordinary 1981 slasher. The story is about as standard as it could have possibly been, escaped psycho kills on Thanksgiving, that's it, not even a reason for the killer going (or finding) to this remote ranch, to say the plot is paper thin is still being overly generous, the characters are at best stick figures apart from one, The Mistake yes that's his real name. He wears white face paint and plays a guitar throughout his time in the film, he starts off as a totally annoying distraction but as the film goes along he becomes one of the more likeable characters and almost everyone else go the opposite way. The performances are not a high point, Peter De Paula as Mistake and a 5 year old Vinessa Shaw (from 3:10 to Yuma fame) save it from complete failure, the maniac is played by celebrity trainer Jake Steinfeld and frankly he is awful, he overacts so much it starts to feel like a comedic performance laughing as he does after most kills, it's just very, very bad. There is zero suspense, the deaths are telegraphed so much any tension is wiped straight away, the killings themselves are OK, nothing very special but passable is such a film. The single location is a good story point but the ranch is so vast it loses any claustrophobic angle it may have been trying for, the best things about the film are watching everyone being bumped off, you're never sure who's going to make it so there is a fun guessing game to be had there & the last 15mins or so the pace tightens and it does get a bit better.

An escaped lunatic is on the run and eventually he ends up at the home of a family who are celebrating thanksgiving...
I saw this for the first time recently but I wish I hadn't bothered as it's utter rubbish like this that gives slashers a bad name. "Home Sweet Home" is completely boring, terribly directed, annoying and inept in just about every single way. It goes without saying that any kind of suspense or imagination is absolutely none existence and it doesn't even have any gore on offer to look forward to. The beefcake laughing killer is pathetic and just can't be taken seriously and the film seems to go on forever even though it has a short running time.
Dreadful slasher.

I bought this DVD last week, the write up seemed quite good and it seemed to be on the same level as the 'Halloween' movies. This film is nothing like it. We played it last night and after an hour we were still waiting for it to start. This is a very very poorly made film. Obviously the price is simply you get what you pay for but I dont want others to think that they are getting a good cheap horror movie because it isnt anything like the write ups.
