Hopefully this single points the direction the Boys are taking for the upcoming album 'Release'.
"Home and Dry" is a very touching love song with some chords that are reminiscent of Police's "Every Breath you take". In this track, the Boys are expecting the main character from "Single-Bilingual" to come back home. "Sexy Northerner" is a "tongue-in-cheek" variation on the theme already explored in "The truck driver and his mate". This is the "danciest" track of the three songs offered here, but with a twist.
The most beautiful track of the album is the magnificent ballad "Always". This is an extremely poignant song about compromises and lost dreams. The opening synth line is haunting and the song maintains this quality throughout. "Always" would have so much deserved to be a single in its own right.
I must confess that Neil Tennant's voice has an ingrained fragility throughout the CD that is very moving, and which he is not always accustomed to.
Overall, another milestone in the development of Pet Shop Boys, always after new experiments, always delivering new, formidable and unexpected musical landscapes...So highly recommended.
