Each recipe is presented with a wonderful picture and a brief introduction. The recipe itself is explained in a very clear and straightforward way.
There are 100 recipes divided into 7 sections:
- Starters, soups, canapés and snacks
- Vegetables and vegetarian
- Cakes and cookies
- Sweets, jams and other good stuff
The first recipes I want to try are:
Beer-battered fish & baked chunky chips
Warm & cosy coq au vin
Sweet potato & salmon fish cakes with chives & lime
Heart-warming boeuf bourguignon
Prawn bisque with basil & brandy
Twice-cooked chicken Kiev
Sadly the desserts and cakes recipes were not incredibly inviting.
I made the 21st Century bread, Butternut Squash soup and Thai Green Chicken curry for friends and there was not an iota left, this says more than words ever could and is the true test of cooking.
I would recommend this book for its varied, exciting recipes to entertain friends or spice up family meals without complication. "Made Easy" it certainly is, it is simple to follow the recipes and the ingredients are easily found in the supermarkets.
If there is a DVD out there I would have gone for that too.
The only problem I have found, considering I've only made the Cheese & Bacon twists so far, (twice!) is finding the right ingredients, in this case it's the thin strips of bacon. I bought a puff pastry sheet, smoked back bacon and cut it into thin strips.
The downside was...... they didn't last very long :-)
I'm looking forward to doing the sausage rolls next.
Wish I hadn't started this review, now I'm feeling hungry... ummm Cheese 'n Bacon twist(s) I'm coming! Yummy!
Home Cooking Made Easy and Baking Made Easy
Lovely recipes, lovely book, perfect for beginners, very useful for the rest.
There's an Italian blog that's reviewing the book currently, and so far they have rated it well, too.

Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because you have to read the ingredients lists and recipes carefully as some of the quantities don't quite match up. Still well worth cooking from though.
