The CD covers a range of relaxing Indian music based around the bamboo flute of Romu Majumdar-Bansuri. Half of the tracks are traditional Indian arrangements. The western influence is in the background. The subtle blend is captivating and inspiring. This is the best CD I bought in 2000, and it has stood the test of time. It is also the best collaboration from Ry Cooder since Talking Timbuctu with Ali Farka Toure.
I got this album a few years ago now when my tastes were starting to branch out into world music. This cd is a treasure - everyone who has encountered it via me, despite differences in musical interests, have been taken by it.
It is a very nice cd to have on when you want to relax, chill and release stress. The flute and tabla drum playing are soft and soothing, and Ry Cooder's western guitar influence, is like wise very soft and non invasive, and so only adds to the charm.
This hard to find CD provides an excellent backdrop to a quiet relaxing experience. The multi talented Ry Cooder combines his Western guitar playing with the sounds of Mr. Majumdar's bamboo flute. Hence the title. The combination of the two artists makes for a very good listening experience. Not recommended for Ry Cooder followers who are looking for his dominant slide guitar style but it is highly recommended as relaxing mood music.
